Rover 75 and MG ZT from the eyes of a Honda Enthusiasts
According to the Rover people, they estimate the boost levels to be around 0.5 to 0.6 bar and this works with a rather high CR of 9.2 (quite typical of LPT engines) to generate a max power of 150hp at 5,500rpm.
By comparison, it actually felt as if the Rover 75 1.8 Turbo I tested the day before could well have had a loose throttle cable and we were not engaging true WOT even with the throttle all the way to the floor.
So the Rover 75 V6's 2.0l QOHC V6 have very similar specs to it, with identical max power and near identical max torque and even their respective rpm points are very similar too.

The styling of the 75 was as controversial then as the current Rover 75 is now.

 CWN Newswire - Rover Group
Rover has combined the creative spirit of its own new design and development teams at Gaydon, in the heart of England, with the unmatched technological resource of the BMW Group to produce a quintessentially British, forward looking, luxury saloon.
The car's elegance recalls Rovers of the past; it is a true thoroughbred with detailing that is an evolutionary interpretation of a heritage that lies at the heart of the British motor industry.
Examples on Rover 75 include the use of chrome on the aerodynamic door mirrors, bumper and bodyside inserts and the sill finisher, along with the rear number plate surround that is actually a spoiler - a component with a real aerodynamic purpose.

 Rover 75 development story
It is a tribute to Rover’s engineering that it produced such convincing yet different cars from such similar underpinnings.” But it did not stop with the re-branding of the current car: the fascinating announcement was also made that there would be a pair of “Extreme” MG ZTs to top the MG Rover range.
MG Rover’s own confidence in the car has allowed them to follow the plan of shortening it to form the basis of their next mid-liner – something they would not have dared to attempt in this most competitive of classes had the 75 itself been a less-than-proficient car.
The long-wheelbase version of the Rover 75, announced in the spring of 2002 marked the welcome return of the Vanden Plas-badged Rover; it certainly paid more attention to the Vanden Plas marque ideals than past efforts such as the Rover SD1 and Metro models which wore that badge.

The 75 is in fact a BMW saloon using the best of what Rover had at the time and then given a retro profile.
The problem the Rover 75 has is that its qualities are a little alien to many people and most people in the executive sector tend to be attracted by the big established names like Mercedes, BMW and Jaguar.

In fact, when the 75 was launched, Rover - then owned by BMW - reckoned that it was the best front-wheel drive car around, and it was probably right.
But if it was an attempt to keep Rover in its place, it didn't work out like that.
Now, it might be argued that MG Rover needs a V8 range-topper like a fish needs a bicycle, and that what the company could really do with is a decent replacement for the 45, following that with another for the 25, and sharpish.

That the ventilation system is probably the least successful part of the engine's installation, however, is a credit to MG Rover, because dynamically, despite the changes in steering and chassis architecture, the 75 V8 retains the essential qualities that make the regular 75 such an endearing car.
Unfortunately, while the 75 V8 suits this sort of motor, the compact executive class is pretty intolerant of cars with 4.6-litre engines returning this level of economy.
The 75 gives just over 21mpg and the trade guides reckon it'll retain less than 40 percent of its £31,995 list price after the same period, during which time it would've used 700 gallons of fuel more than a 28mpg rival.
