Austin Rover Group - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Austin Rover Group (ARG) was formed in 1981 as the mass-market car manufacturing subsidiary of British Leyland (BL).
Following the renaming of its parent company, BL, in 1986 to the Rover Group, and the subsequent sell-off of its truck and bus businesses, and takeover in 1988 by British Aerospace, and then in 1995 by BMW, ARG was eventually sold back into private ownership and became MG Rover.
It is believed that Nanjing Automotive may have purchased this from MG Rover, however the trademark has not been recorded as reassigned as of 17 July 2006.

After Phoenix: It's not over at Rover
The Phoenix deal may have 'saved' Longbridge in the short-term, but the price for Rover workers is high: 1,000 (and probably many more) redundancies, a divided workforce and a union leadership so publicly committed to Phoenix and John Towers personally, that resistance to further attacks will be extremely difficult.
It need not have been like this: the 80,000-strong 'Save Rover' demonstration in Birmingham on April 1st showed that massive support existed from the general public and the trade union rank and file throughout the Midlands and, indeed, the rest of the country.
A militant campaign demanding nationalisation of Rover Group as a whole, backed up by the occupation of key areas of Longbridge, could have forced Blair and Byers to change their tune.
