Rover (car): Just the facts...   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-10)
Rover is a manufacturer of automobile (4-wheeled motor vehicle; usually propelled by an internal combustion engine) s in the United Kingdom (A monarchy in northwestern Europe occupying most of the British Isles; divided into England and Scotland and Wales and Northern Ireland).
This was the beginning of the end for the traditional Rover, as the Solihull based company's heritage drowned beneath the infamous industrial relations and managerial problems that beset the British motor industry throughout the 1970s (The decade from 1970 to 1979).
It was later denied by MG Rover Group (additional info and facts about MG Rover Group), although the company admitted that it had engaged PriceWaterhouseCoopers (additional info and facts about PriceWaterhouseCoopers), the accountancy (The occupation of maintaining and auditing records and preparing financial reports for a business) firm, to advise on its current financial situation.

The Rover K is not a CIB engine: its design consists of 4 separate cast iron liners sandwiched between a light alloy head and a light alloy block.
Fitting the thermostat on the engine outlet could solve the thermostat dynamic issue (because of the blending/dampening effect of the coolant inside the engine and the engine itself) and the static issue (as the coolant temperature at the engine outlet is higher compared to the inlet).
The new MG Rover thermostat seems to be the result of a comprehensive re-work of the cooling system on the K. Although keeping the original layout (thermostat on the return path from the radiator, bulb in the bypass flow when closed) its design is improved in all aspects.

 Lotus Elise: Rover K Series
Similarly, there are engine builders up and down the country who look upon the K as all too breakable in their experience, and the letters pages of the motor sport press have, in their time, been full of stories of cracked liners, blown gaskets, spun bearings, and in fact all manner of woe.
This engine was beset with many problems as a result of this rather convoluted conception, and was described recently by Richard Meaden in EVO magazine as “coughing and farting at low revs, hollering in pain at high revs, with nothing in between”.
I have spoken to all the design engineers and Tim Seiple, who would be responsible for the federalisation and it is quite clear that in the same way that Ford asked for the KV6 to be federalised, federalising the K would not be a problem and that there are a huge number of misapprehensions.

 Lotus Elise: Toyota 2ZZ-GE Engine
Rover's K engine was a clean sheet of paper design with some innovative features such as through bolting of the bottom and top ends through the block and lightweight construction.
While the Rover K engine had some innovative features and was relatively light, it was never designed to meet U.S. emissions requirements.
The K engine was a relatively new design in 1995 when Lotus proposed its use in the original Elise.

 The K series engine
The K series was designed with transverse installation in mind, fitting it in a fore-aft installation is not without its problems with the engine suffering badly from oil surge where the oil is moved away from the pickup by the lateral 'G' forces generated when cornering hard.
K series heads as they leave the factory are not always finished to the degree intended, quite often the waterways are left quite badly fettled to the extent that the waterway area is a lot less the the original production design.
Since the K series has a very low volume of coolant it is necessary, especially on the exhaust side of the head, to improve the water passageways by opening to the maximum extent as originally envisaged by the designers.
