In December of 1978 during her passage from Karachi to the Seychelles, RFA Grey Rover was ordered to loiter off Iran after civilian unrest with the possibility of the evacuation of British Nationals.
In November of 1983 RFA Grey Rover was back in the Lebanon during Operation Offcut, the naval support for British troops in the multinational force in the Lebanon.
After her final tour down the South Atlantic she sailed for the Caribbean where RFA Grey Rover was part of the biggest drugs bust in recent times, with a haul of approximately £350 million of cocaine.

Fast Fleet Tankers, the Rover Class Small Fleet Tankers are designed specifically to supply Royal Navy frigates or small groups of warships (rather than large taskgroups) with fuel and lubricants, although they can also provide limited amounts of fresh water, dry stores, refrigerated food and munitions.
The Rover Class are 140.3 metres long with a beam of 19.2 metres and a 7.3 metre draught.
The tanker is passing the 258ft Nordenskjold Glacier during a two year deployment to the South Atlantic.

The Navy buys a class, which is a baseline hull, then the batches are built to an evolving standard, and if the money is forthcoming, then earlier batches are then upgraded.
The later Fort class will be able to serve the CVF using a governmental waiver, but this is a stop-gap measure, like the Argus SLE.

What kind off twisted mind could ever though one day of taking a 2 tons vehicle, which had the aerodynamic of a wardrobe, which require a full tanker to itself and take the space of at least five minis, into town.
I would say a Land Rover Defender, a Jeep Wrangler, and a Hummer H1 will all be slightly better off-road, due to their amazing wheel articulation which VW's independent suspension cannot imitate.
However, the Touareg is as capable (or moreso) as the Discovery, Land Cruiser, 4Runner, Grand Cherokee, and Hummer H2.
