Rowan County is a county located in the state of Kentucky.
The county was created in 1856 and named for John Rowan, who represented Kentucky in the U.S. House and Senate.
In the county the population is spread out with 20.30% under the age of 18, 23.50% from 18 to 24, 25.90% from 25 to 44, 20.00% from 45 to 64, and 10.40% who are 65 years of age or older.

Rowan County, the 104th county in order of formation, is located in the mountains of northeastern Kentucky.
For of all the counties in the state of Kentucky, Rowan has the good fortune to be named in honor of the founder and establisher of the beautiful brick home near Bardstown, the home in which Stephen Foster penned his immortal song, the mecca for loyal Kentuckians, thousands of whom visit the shrine each year.
The seat of justice for Rowan County was designated on the east fork of Triplett Creek at a point agreed upon by the commissioners and to be between the residences of Dixon Clack and B. Powers.

 Leaders sign historic water deal for southern Rowan County
Elected officials of four municipalities and the Rowan County Board of Commissioners gathered for the signing of a joint resolution that should deliver badly needed water to southern Rowan County as early as next summer.
The county and municipalities being served by the water-line extension will share the cost of the new line — roughly $7 million.

A repaving and bridge rehabilitation project on I-64 near the Rowan/Bath County line is expected to complete in December.
Three miles of the road are being repaved, and the deck of the Licking River bridge is being overlaid with a latex concrete.

 Morehead KY - Our History
Although stone, coal, and timber were the county's main resources, they were not exploited in great quantities until the Elizabethtown, Lexington & Big Sandy Railroad arrived in the county in the early 1880s.
The largest was the Morehead & North Fork Railroad (later abandoned), which by 1908 connected the Chesapeake & Ohio Railroad at Morehead with Redwine in Morgan County.
