  Roy Castle - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Roy Castle OBE (born August 31, 1932 in Scholes, near Holmfirth; died September 2, 1994) was a British dancer, singer, comedian, actor and musician.
He was a talented jazz trumpet player, and attributed his lung cancer (of which he died) to years of passive smoking in music clubs.
Their youngest son, Benjamin Castle, is a successful jazz saxophonist.

The widow of entertainer Roy Castle is demanding his name be removed from the title of the cancer charity he set up.
In a letter received by the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation on Tuesday Fiona Castle announced her resignation as patron of the charity and demanded that her late husband's name be removed from its title "for personal reasons".
Mrs Castle is understood to have been upset when her close friend Sheila Ingham stood down as chief executive of the charity last October amid allegations of financial irregularities.

The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation is a wonderful charity, one I am very proud to be associated with and one which I shall continue to help raise money for.
I met Roy Castle once but corresponded with him by mail for several years (I have kept all of them - even the envelopes he wrote himself)and, when he struck down with lung cancer, I wrote him two stories "The Warrior of Rhythmn" and "The Princess of Dance" which I sent to him.
I returned home to care for my mum having little idea how serious this disease is. I nursed mum from a strong healthy outgoing woman to a shell of her former self who disappeared in front of my eyes the hardest and saddest thing I think a family can go through.
