Roy: I got into TAMA mostly through being into Stewart Copeland and the Police, I saw the TAMA drums and I like “Wow, I want to play TAMA”, I love the sound of them and eventually got to be endorsed by TAMA when I joined Soulfly.

SOULFLY mainman Max Cavalera has officially parted ways with the rest of his band — bassist Marcello D. Rapp, drummer Roy Mayorga, and guitarist Mike Doling.
According to informed sources, the mass exodus was prompted by the firing of Rapp by Max and SOULFLY manager Gloria Cavalera (Max's wife), which in turn led Mayorga and Doling to quit in protest.
Roy Mayorga and Mike Doling have reportedly joined forces with bassist Tumor (Amen), vocalist Jason Radford (Onesidezero) and guitarist Levon Sultanian (Onesidezero) to form a new band called Mothra.

We began as a recording experiment in 1998 with Robert Trujillo (Suicidal Tendencies, Ozzy) playing bass, Roy Mayorga (Soulfly) on drums, James Mills on guitar, Shawnee (me) on vocals and Benji (Dubwar, Skindred) working with melodies and arrangements.
After recording several songs, Robert, Roy and Benji all parted ways to continue with their own projects and James and I were left in need of a rhythm section to replace Roy and Robert.
Luckily, the first two guys to audition were Johnny Sprague (bass) and Carl Marrelli (drums) who were hand picked by Robert to fill his shoes.

Their 60s output was distinctive, from the “bad trip” lyrics of “Night Of Fear” to the weirdness of “I Can Hear The Grass Grow” and then they were sued by prime minister Harold Wilson when a publicity postcard for their third single was proven to be offensive.
The band fragmented as time went on with bass player Ace Kefford leaving and then lead singer Carl Wayne (although Roy Wood had sung lead on “Fire Brigade” and “Blackberry Way”) pursuing a solo career in cabaret before teaming up as the new lead singer of The Hollies in the 90s on Allan Clarke’s departure.
Roy Wood is still performing today and his latest gigs can be found on his web page.
