Roy Phillips came to Barber County in 1907 with his parents V.M. and Alice Wix Phillips, borthers Joey, Earle, and Ralph, and sister Madge.
Roy and Della met at community gatherings, and he courted her during a joint revival in 1914, and joined the Methodist Church in Medicine Lodge.
Roy loved God's earth and the animals He put on it, and didn't give up the farming he loved even in such rough times and the 'dirty thirties.' Roy and Della's family was very close- knit, and the two always did everything together, whether it was field work or washing dishes.

It was at a series of auditions for Meek's group The Tornados that Roy Phillips, a piano player, first met guitarist Tab Martin.
After a short spell as members of The Tornados, Phillips and Martin left to form The Saints, a short-lived group that are only remembered by a couple of UK-only 45's.
Roy Phillips played keyboards and provided those characteristic vocals (plus all the original song-writing), Tab Martin played bass guitar (incidentally played in that silly 'upright' manner that Bill Wyman plays it !) and Trevor Morais provided drums.
