In July, RAF Police personnel were organised at the Headquarters of the 2nd Tactical Air Force in Bracknell, for the invasion of Northern Europe and new RAF Police units were established in North Africa and the Middle East.
June 1944, the invasion into Europe began and RAF Police units landed in Normandy on D-Day and provided support to the 2nd Tactical Air Force, the 1st Canadian and the 21st Army Groups, and were tasked with moving troops and equipment off the beaches and escorting them to pre-arranged points.
The RAF Police School moved to RAF Netheravon and was re-titled as the RAF Police Depot and the RAF Police Museum was established.

Chances are, if you told anyone you were in the RAF Police they would invariably want to know all about your dog, assuming that every member of the branch is issued with one on appointment; such is their notoriety.
In 1991, in line with defence reviews, RAF Police dog training merged with the Royal Army Veterinary Corps at Melton Mowbray and the Defence Animal Centre was formed.
In 60 years, the Royal Air Force Police have earned a glowing reputation both at home and abroad for their high standard of training dog teams and for their highly professional use of dogs for patrol duties as well as in specialist roles.

As with the Royal Canadian Navy and Canadian Army, establishments, training, equipment and doctrine were closely allied with the British model.
Between 1924 and 1939 there was little requirement for an Air Force Police establishment, most security and policing duties were carried out by general duty NCOs under the authority of the Station Adjutant.
During the war, a large number of Royal Air Force personell were stationed in Canada, as instructors or students on aircrew training.

 History of the SAAF Police
During World War Two, members of the Royal Air Force Police were attached to the wartime Military Police Corps to help maintain discipline over members of the SA Air Force and RAF personnel attached to the SAAF.
Until 1998, male members of the SA Air Force Police were distinguished by the light blue cap covers that they wore over their Service Dress caps.
During 1998, the blue covers were withdrawn and the Air Force Police began wearing the standard flight caps of the SA Air Force.

I’d never attended the Royal Tournament before, not as a spectator or participant and this was to be the last one, ever.
For example, the Royal Navy’s Field Gun Competition, The Kings Troop Royal Horse Artillery’s Musical Ride, the Royal Air Force Police Volunteer Dog Demonstration Team and of course, the Massed Bands.
I was particularly impressed by the Royal Corps of Signals “White Helmets” Motorcycle Display Team, who arranged a special treat for me on my 18th Birthday which I celebrated during the Tournament.
