The Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) is the air force branch of the Australian Defence Force.
The RAAF's main operational formation, the First Tactical Air Force, comprised more than 18,000 personnel and 20 squadrons; it had taken part in the Philippines and Borneo campaigns and was scheduled to participate in the invasion of the Japanese mainland, Operation Downfall.
The RAAF Roundel is based on that of the British Royal Air Force, with the central circle replaced by a Kangaroo, a symbol of Australia.

This article is intended to provide an overview of Australian military operations in Vietnam, commencing from the deployment of the Australian Army Training Team Vietnam in 1962 until 1969, when Australian forces began withdrawing, consistent with the Nixon Doctrine of phased withdrawal from the mainland of Asia and the policy of Vietnamization.
The exact placement of the Task Force was to be Nui Dat, a hill on Route 2, heading north through the centre of the province, and was an obvious challenge to the NLF and NVA forces in the area.

Three Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) Falcon jets are on the way to pick up the president and his entourage and fly them to the Australian capital of Canberra, a defense department spokesman told CNN.
The Indonesian military plane carrying Wahid was forced to land at a RAAF base in Darwin at about 6am (Australian eastern standard time) because of a mechanical problem with one of the jet's four engines.
Relations between Jakarta and Canberra almost collapsed two years ago when Australian forces led an international peacekeeping force sent in to quell mob violence in East Timor following the territory's landmark vote in favor of independence from Indonesia.

A century after the first Australian nurses paid their own way to the Boer War, their successors said a memorial to Australian service nurses had been a long time in coming.
The memorial, designed by sculptor Robin Moorhouse, is constructed from translucent blue glass and has the words 'Beyond all praise' on the front.
A spokeswoman for the memorial committee said a special plaque honouring the East Timor nursing contingent will soon be added to the memorial to recognise nurses' most recent contribution.

 World Ultra News: Lest We Forget
Today is the 90th anniversary of the Australian and New Zealand Troops who landed at Anzac Cove in Gallipoli.
This has reminded one that we are much closer in the ADF to be called upon for active service in the last ten years than what we were in the 80’s when I first joined up.
This includes my Grandfather who served in the Front of Europe in WW1 as a member of the Royal Army Medical Corp and saw the true horrors of war and my wife’s Grandfather who was a Lance-Corporal Signalman in the AIF during WW2 and did his time for Australia.

Bishop Tom Frame is Anglican Bishop to the Australian Defence Force, and Chairman of the Anglican Defence Force Board.
After a period at the Australian War Memorial in 1985 as the Inaugural Summer Vacation Scholar, Sub-Lieutenant Frame completed his training in HMA Ships Jervis Bay and Supply before being posted to the shore establishment HMAS Cerberus as an instructor.
After serving as a staff officer at Headquarters, Australian Defence Force, he resigned from the RAN in 1992 to complete a MTh thesis entitled, ‘The Delphic Sword: Reconciling Christianity and Military Service in Australia’, and his training for the Anglican priesthood in the Diocese of Canberra and Goulburn.

The U.S. Air Force HH-43B helicopter was manufactured by Kamen Aircraft Corporation in Bloomfield, Connecticut.
With it's auxiliary equipment, the helicopter could be used for aerial pickup of survivors, fire control and suppression, crash entry and survivor removal, and immediate first aid.
The area covered is roughly a seventy mile radius from Phan Rang Air Base, north of Nha Trang, west almost to the Cambodian border, and south, halfway to Ben Hoa.
