  HMAS Sydney [Australian War Memorial]
Captain Burnett was born in Singleton, NSW, on 26 December 1899 and entered the Royal Australian Naval College on 31 December 1912, one of the original intake.
After two years in the battleship HMS Royal Oak (from 1920 to 1922), he specialised in gunnery, undertaking training at HMS Excellent, the Royal Navy's gunnery training establishment.
Service at Navy Office as Assistant Chief of Naval Staff and Director of Naval Intelligence from 1933 to 1935 was followed by two more years on the Canberra.

The first Australian participation in the Korean War was by the RAAF, operations commencing 2 July, 1950, with a flight of four Mustangs intended to escort American C 47s bringing back wounded from Korea.
The Australian Army participation in the Korean War commenced 27 September, 1950, when 3 Battalion Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR) embarked on the Aiken Victory for the southern Korean port of Pusan.
Australian casualties were 339 killed in action or died of wounds.

The ex HMAS Sydney (WA) Association are mainly Western Australian sailors that served in the Royal Australian Navy's cruiser HMAS Sydney from her commissioning in 1935, in her service in Australian waters, and during her service in the Mediterranean, during 1940/1941.
The five N Class Destroyers which served with the Royal Australian Navy were on loan from the British Navy, and were manned and operated by Australian Naval personnel from their commissioning between 1940 and 1942 until the end of their service after the war, in 1945.

Thanks to the Australian War Memorial (AWM) the Royal Australian Navy will get another step closer tomorrow (Wednesday 10) morning towards preserving its Fleet Air Arm heritage in a ceremony to be held in Canberra.
A Hawker Sea Fury aircraft and spare parts, which are surplus to the AWM's requirements will be acquired by the Royal Australian Navy's Historic Flight to assist in the restoration of a Sea Fury aircraft to an airworthy condition.
Chief of Navy, Vice Admiral Don Chalmers will join the Director of the Australian War Memorial, Major General Steve Gower at the AWM's Treloar Annex in Callan Street Mitchell at 11am to sign the contract which will see the aircraft handed over to Navy.

Although not in the same league as the Communicators Association, or the Fleet Air Arm Association numbers-wise, we can be justifiably proud of our financial membership (216 at December 02) considering we were one of the smallest branches of the RAN.
Back in May 1990 the Director of Music - Navy, LCDR Vic Knowles RAN invited Jim Hawkins to compile a column for the Navy produced and distributed newsletter, 'Royal Australian Navy Band News' which was distributed twice each year.
They formed a steering committee, borrowed the Navy name and address list, and following some money being put into a kitty, mailed a very brief newsletter asking Ex's to join an association for the modest sum of $7 per year.
