The Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames is a London borough in south-west London.
Kingston still has a monument, the Coronation Stone, on which the monarchs were said to have actually been crowned.
The current borough was formed in 1965 as a merger of the previous Municipal Borough of Kingston upon Thames (which had the title of a Royal Borough) with the Municipal Borough of Malden and Coombe and the Municipal Borough of Surbiton which were transferred from Surrey to Greater London.

Twenty social workers based at Kingston and Tolworth Hospitals have been recognised for their joint effort with local health care staff to allocate services for patients when leaving hospital.
The Department of Health set an objective for the Kingston area to limit the number of patients whose discharge from hospital is delayed to a maximum of eight people per week.
Jenny Webb, Head of Community Care in Kingston, who presented the Award at a lunch at Kingston Primary Care Trust last week, said: 'The team works hard to ensure people leave the hospital at the right time for them and with the right services in place to meet their needs.
