A 13-member delegation from the United Kingdom’s Royal College of Defence Studies (RCDS) is in the country for a five-day official visit as part of the ongoing bilateral relationship between the UK and Malawi.
The RCDS, which was formerly known as the Imperial Defence College and founded in 1927, is an internationally renowned institution and component of the UK’s National Defence Academy.
According to her, the college offers one course a year to a maximum of 88 people, one-third from the UK and two-thirds from overseas.

The Royal College of Defence Studies (RCDS) is an internationally-renowned institution and component of the Defence Academy of the United Kingdom.
Formerly the Imperial Defence College, RCDS owes its origins to the recommendation of a cabinet committee in 1922 presided over by Winston Churchill, then Secretary of State for the Colonies.
The College is under a Commandant, currently Admiral Sir Ian Garnett, KCB, and senior directing staff are major-general and equivalent officers from the Royal Navy, British Army, Royal Air Force, and civil service.

Briefing the journalists, S Chisnall said the mission of the Royal College is to prepare senior officers and officials of the United Kingdom and other countries as well as future leaders in the private and public sectors through enhancing their analytical power, knowledge of defence and international security and strategic vision.
The college runs one course every year -- from January to December -- and each course is attended by a maximum of 88 members, one-third of them from the UK and the rest from overseas.

AS PART of the biggest shake-up in Defence training for years, a new academy is to be set up by merging three major military colleges.
In a wide-ranging plan for reform designed to increase joint training at all levels, the Royal College of Defence Studies, the new Joint Services Command and Staff College, and the Royal Military College of Science will be brought together as organisations to form the major part of the Defence Academy.
A Defence Sixth Form College is also planned as well as a wider Defence Undergraduate Bursary Scheme similar to that already operated by the Navy at Southampton University.

Vice Admiral Eivind Hauger-Johannessen was born 11 December 1946 in Oslo.
Hauger-Johannessen completed the Norwegian Naval Staff College in 1982 and was a member of the Royal College of Defence Studies in the Great Britain 1991.
