  Royal College of Organists
The College of Organists was established in 1864, the result of an idea by Richard Limpus, organist of St Michael's, Cornhill in the City of London.
This idiosyncratic building was to be the College's home from 1904 to 1990, and gave it a stability which enabled the officers to concentrate on their work of administering the examinations raising standards in the profession and developing the Library.
Today, the College is a multi-faceted membership organisation whose professional and educational work is aimed at all who have interests in the organ and choral music.

classical music - andante - u.k.'s royal college of organists names performer of the year
The biannual competition, which was open to organists born after 1960, is the only U.K. contest that allows its finalists to show off their skills with a full symphony — in this case, the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra under Rumon Gamba.
The RCO is not expected to move into its new home, the former Curzon Street railway station, until 2004, in part because the extensive renovations will be slowed by the building's landmark status.
In June, Queen Elizabeth, patron of the Royal College, visited the proposed new home as part of her Jubilee tour and planted a specially bred rose (named "Royal College of Organists") in honor of the College's move.
