Peder Tordenskjold - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
After further voyages, this time to the East Indies, Wessel was, on the July 7, 1711, appointed 2nd lieutenant in the Royal Danish Navy and shortly afterwards became the captain of a 4-gun sloop Ormen (The Serpent), in which he cruised about the Swedish coast picking up useful information about the enemy.
The Royal Danish Navy has named several ships after him, including an early 20th Century coastal battleship, and the Niels Juel class corvette KDM Peter Tordenskiold (F356).
The Royal Norwegian Navy has also named ships after him and the Norwegian naval training establishment in Bergen is named KNM Tordenskjold.

Serving the King, On the Danish Royal Yacht DANNEBROG "I"
Unlike earlier Danish royal yachts, which were relatively small vessels intended either for harbor or local cruising service or as, e.g., ceremonial barges which were primarily oared vessels, the DANNEBROG I was capable of ocean-going cruises of limited duration, to nearby nations such as the Scandinavian countries or England.
Danish royal yachts varied in type and size, some being no more than ceremonial harbor barges, while others were specifically designated as "pleasure yachts." However, none of Denmark's royal yachts during the sailing ship era seems to have been large enough for long-range, open-ocean cruising, far from Copenhagen's harbor.
These royal yachts, during the age of sail, were typically designed and built by the Danish navy's chief naval architect, and most of them were constructed in the Danish navy's principal dockyard in Copenhagen.

The Royal Danish Administration of Navigation and Hydrography is continuously following this development, so that the number of rescue stations, their location and equipment can be constantly adapted to current requirements for coastal rescue service efforts.
The Royal Danish Administration of Navigation and Hydrography continues to be responsible for hydrographic survey.

Attack on the NÜRNBERG in 1945
A Gunnery Mate, Henry Chirholm, trainee at the Royal Danish Naval Diving School became famous, as it shortly after the liberation was known, that he, in April 1945, had made an attempt to sink the German light cruiser NÜRNBERG in Copenhagen.
After The Royal Danish Navy had scuttled their ship and vessels on August 29, 1943, to prevent the vessels from being taken over by the Germans, the German troops had taken over the Naval Station Holmen.
It was most important that the Navy Diving School would not be directly involved, in case the operation failed, and the equipment fell in the hands of the Germans.

Coastal navies generally do not have long-range SAM systems on board surface ships, and the air defense of naval units or naval task groups is therefore normally not as well integrated or coordinated as in blue-water navies.
The U.S. Navy and the Marine Corps have several related research projects in progress, and there are plans for interim solutions until a final one is found; the problem seems, however, to be so severe for present and future operations that far more resources should be transferred to it.
The U.S. Navy can accomplish this in two ways: either develop a coastal navy of its own and carry out national exercises, or use the existing Nato alliance, several of whose navies in both northern and southern Europe are among the best coastal navies in the world today, and exercise with them.

On land the Danes were on general retreat in the war of 1864, but the navy provided the all too rare encouragements for the discouraged war-weary Danish population.
The navy was hardly equipped before the outbreak of war, but succeeded in establishing a total naval blockade of the German ports.
The combined Austrian and Prussian navies never managed to be a serious threat to the Danish Navy, but unfortunately the war was not settled at sea.
