For the benefit of all new members the RE AFC Veterans was instigated from a reunion for serving and retired ex Corps players and officials of the club, which was agreed by the RE AFC Corps Committee in 1986 to plan a reunion weekend to celebrate ‘RE Royal 200 Year in 1987 at Chatham’.
In 1988 the 125th Anniversary of RE AFC the Corps Scroll was approved and commissioned with a limited edition of 125, which were quickly purchased by members of the Corps and in particular one was presented to the Football Association in London.
From the RE AFC Scroll the veteran’s logo was developed and is now found on team wear and merchandise promoting the veteran arm of the club.

The Royal Engineers AFC was founded in 1863 by members of the army commonly known as the Sappers, the Corps of Royal Engineers, and was a team entirely of soldiers.
The Royal Engineers team consisted of two captains and nine lieutenants and was captained, appropriately, by Captain Francis Marindin, the club's founder who would later become president of the FA and would referee several FA Cup finals.
With no substitutes available in those days, the Royal Engineers were forced to play with ten men as he received lengthy treatment but then played on in severe pain.
