The Royal Gorge (also Grand Canyon of the Arkansas) is a canyon on the Arkansas River near Cañon City, Colorado.
Royal Gorge was a bottleneck along the Arkansas too narrow for both the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway and the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad to pass through, and there was no other reasonable access to the South Park area.
In the 1890s Royal Gorge was used as a passenger route for transcontinental rail travel.

You can’t really scout the gorge, but when we were there the line was left up top, then far right twice, then center at the bottom.
Be aware of a bad hole in the lead out of the gorge which should be run far left.
This huge and tricky double cascade can be seen near the end of Thirst (along with many other of the Royal Gorge’s drops.) The next huge drop is the 80-90 foot Wabena Falls, which has only been run once by Ben Stokesburry and lead to a broken nose.
