From the outset, the Shropshire Yeomanry was fortunate to inherit a long military tradition, for prior to the reorganisation of the Militia in the mid-eighteenth century Shropshire had one Regiment of Foot and two Troops of Horse commanded by Colonel The Earl of Bradford.
From 1961-1967 the Pembroke Yeomanry was affiliated as a Sabre Squadron and in 1967 the Shropshire Royal Horse Artillery (raised in 1860 as the 1st Shropshire Artillery Volunteers) was amalgamated with the Regiment, in which it became "A" Squadron.
The Battalion was disbanded in June 1919, and the Cheshire Yeomanry was reconstituted as a cavalry regiment in March 1920.

The Royal Armoured Corps (RAC) is currently a collection of ten regular regiments, mostly converted from old horse cavalry regiments, and four Yeomanry regiments of the Territorial Army.
The 1st Royal Tank Regiment forms approximately two thirds of the regular establishment of the Joint CBRN Regiment.
The Household Cavalry Regiment (consisting of the Life Guards and the Blues and Royals) is not part of the RAC; instead it is part of the Household Cavalry, which is classed as a corps in its own right.

It is the insignia of the Royal House of Prussia and was awarded to the 14th Light Dragoons in 1798 by the Crown Princess Frederica of Prussia.
The award was a mark of Royal favour, after the 14th had escorted her from Dover to London prior to her marriage to the Duke of York.
The Bengough Shield was presented to The Royal Hussars (PWO) upon retirement of the Colonel of the Regiment, Sir Piers Bengough KVCO OBE, in 1989.

 The Collections - Worcestershire Yeomanry Museum
The collections of the Worcestershire Yeomanry Regiment are currently being re-housed in new display galleries at the City Museum, called "The Worcestershire Soldier", with the help of a grant of £323,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
Drawing on these collections, and objects from the Worcestershire Yeomanry Cavalry and the City Museum Service, the new displays will tell the story of the people of Worcestershire and their role in the defence of Britain for over 300 years.
The collections are the property of the Worcestershire Yeomanry Museum Trust, which maintains close links with the successor regiment, the Royal Mercian and Lancastrian Yeomanry, but are managed by Worcester City Museums.

 Warwickshire Yeomanry Museum, Warwick England UK
On the 25th June 1794 the Lord Lieutenant of Warwickshire, the Earl of Warwick had raised by public subscription sufficient money to raise a force of Volunteer Cavalry for the defence of the County in the event of invasion by the French, with whom we were at war.
This force comprising Gentlemen and Yeomanry of the County was named the Warwickshire Yeomanry Cavalry and its first commanding officer was the 4th Earl of Aylesford.
The Cadre expanded in 1971 to a Squadron of the Queen's Own Mercian Yeomanry which in 1992 became The Royal Mercian and Lancastrian Yeomanry.

In 1920 the Worcestershire Yeomanry were converted to artillery and provided two batteries in 100th (Worcestershire and Oxfordshire Yeomanry) Brigade, Royal Field Artillery.
It served as such until amalgamation with The Warwickshire Yeomanry in 1956 when the new Regiment was granted the title of The Queen's Own Warwickshire and Worcestershire Yeomanry.
The Regiment ceased to exist in 1969 however, two successor units; A (S and WWY) Sqn Royal Mercian and Lancastrian Yeomanry and 67th (QOWWY) Sig Sqn Royal Signals were formed.

My first glimpse of the Challenger IIs was in a wood at Staple, where the Royal Mercian and Lancastrian Yeomanry were spending part of their annual training camp.
It was the first time TA volunteers and the regular Army had ever trained together in the TA's new role as individual war established reserves.

RMLY has its headquarters in Telford and trains people to operate Challenger 2 armoured vehicles, among other skills.
I have heard, on numerous occasions, comments from regular soldiers and officers paying tribute to the quality of work of the RMLY and I am sure that that is mirrored all the way through the Territorial Army.
In all of this the Royal Air Force and Royal Navy reserves are also important factors to consider.
