  Royal Newfoundland Constabulary - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) is the provincial police force of the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador.
In the 19th century, the RNC was modeled after the Royal Irish Constabulary with the secondment in 1844 of Timothy Mitchell of the Royal Irish Constabulary to be Inspector General, making it the oldest civil police force in North America.
In 1979, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II conferred the insignia ‘Royal’ on the Newfoundland Constabulary in recognition of its long history of service to Newfoundland and Labrador.

John McCowen was appointed Commanding Officer of the Newfoundland Constabulary on March 26, 1895 and became the first member of the Constabulary to hold the rank of Inspector General.
Royal Humane Society Bronze Medal was presented to Head Constable J. McCowen and six others for bravery in saving the lives of the crew of the brig, "Eric Carbonear" on the 7th of April, 1878 at Birds' Island Cove, Trinity Bay.
Hutchings’ discovery was of immense importance to the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary because of the prominent role McCowen played in the history of the Province and in particular the history of the Force.

In 1993, the Ethnic-Cultural Association of Newfoundland and Labrador presented a seminar on contemporary issues, problems and concerns of visible minorities to members of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary.
In March 1996, the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary and the Human Rights Commission participated in a seminar entitled, "Hearts of Hate - The Battle for Young Minds." Some of the topics covered were racial gangs, gang recruitment, hate camps, and propaganda.

 Royal Newfoundland Constabulary Historical Society Archives and Museum
When E.J. Coady became chief of police in 1987, his goal was to establish a museum in the foyer of the RNC building to house a collection of documents and artifacts which had been accumulating for the years.
The RNC Archives and Museum contains early police records, over four dozen audio tapes of oral history interviews with constables, and 10,000 photographs, thereby providing an extensive visual and oral history of police activities in the province from 1871 to the present.

Bill joined the Newfoundland Police (Royal Newfoundland Constabulary) in St. John's during the autumn of 1938, just before the outbreak of hostilities in Europe.

The government has announced that the five politicians named in Newfoundland and Labrador's legislative spending scandal will be getting letter demanding repayment of excess payments in their constituency allowances.
Trying to foist this off as something that happened under Brian Tobin's government or that responsibility only goes as far as the MHA's who are accused is to try a wash their hands of the whole thing and appear to be acting on the matter.
Why wont they wait until the RNC investigation is completed (sometime in the next decade) so that the actions of other people involved may be made public.
