Officials at Norway's Royal Palace in Oslo are seeking additional public funds to pay for heightened security around members of the royal family.
The Royal Palace's downtown location isn't considered to be adequately secured.
Palace officials are asking for NOK 6.3 million (USD 1 million) to boost security around the palace and Skaugum.

In the park surrounding the palace, near Karl Johansgate, can be seen a monument (by G. Vigeland) to the mathematician N. Abel (1802-29), and behind the palace, to the right, is a statue, also by Vigeland, of the woman writer Camilla Collett (1813-95).

OSLO, Norway (AP) -- Norway's royal palace in downtown Oslo is open for public tours for the first time since 1920.
They haven't begun to use the palace as their official residence because the seven-year, 400 million kroner ($47 million) restoration is not finished.
Apart from being the royal couple's future home, the palace is used for government cabinet meetings, and as a guest house for visiting heads of state.

The Royal Palace (no:Slottet) in Oslo was built in the first half of the 19th century as the Norwegian residence of Norwegian and Swedish king Charles III (Carl Johan, Charles XIV of Sweden) and is used as the official residence of the present Norwegian Monarch.
Until the completion of the Palace, members of the Bernadotte dynasty resided in the Paleet, a magnificent town house in Christiania bequeathed to the State in 1805 to be used as a royal residence.
Oscar II was absent from his Palace during 1905, the year of the dissolution of the union between Norway and Sweden, but his son, Crown Prince Gustaf, paid two short visits in his vain attempts to save the union.

During the period of union with Sweden, 1814-1905, the Palace was used only during the King's visits to Oslo.
It did not become a permanent residence for the royal family until 1905, when Danish Prince Carl, after the dissolution of the union and the national referendum, agreed to become King of Norway, assuming the name of Haakon VII.

The event at 10 Palace Green was attended by The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh as well as The Queen of Norway, accompanied by The Crown Princess of Norway.
She was born on 26 November 1869 as Princess Maud of Wales and was the daughter of the future King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra.
Her body was returned to Norway, and she is buried in the royal mausoleum at the Castle of Akershus in Oslo.
