Royal School of Mines entrance in London's Albertopolis.
The name was changed in 1863 to the Royal School of Mines, and was moved to South Kensington in 1872, leaving the Museum of Practical Geology behind in Jermyn Street.
Designed by Sir Aston Webb, the RSM building was erected between 1909 and 1913 specifically to house the Royal School of Mines, which was previously resident in the Huxley Building on Exhibition Road, now the Henry Cole wing of the Victoria and Albert Museum.

However, it became increasingly difficult for the Episcopal Church to finance the current expenses of the School of Mines and Golden citizens realized that the Territory must assume control or the School would either be moved to Denver or its brief existence brought to a close.
This signalized the beginning of the Colorado School of Mines that was to take its place at the fore of Colorado educational institutions and also become the foremost school of the mineral industries in the world.
