The Royal University of Bhutan, founded on June 3, 2003, is the national university system of Bhutan.
HRH The crown prince is the Chancellor of the university.
The Institute of Language and Cultural Studies, presently in Semtokha near Thimphu, is slated to expand to 500+ students and move to Taktsi in Trongsa dzongkhag.

The Royal Charter and the Statutes of the Royal University of Bhutan envisage the establishment of the University Council as the supreme governing body of the University.
The Council of the Royal University of Bhutan is constituted under the Royal Charter as the supreme body responsible for the key policies, strategic plans and overall performance of the University.
As the Centre for Bhutan Studies is not a teaching institute offering any post-secondary education programmes, the issue of its membership of the University was discussed and agreed to be reviewed during the visit to the Centre by the founding Vice Chancellor and his team.

 Sherubtse College - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
As of 2003 it became part of the newly created Royal University of Bhutan system that comprises all post-secondary schools in Bhutan.
The royal government of Bhutan hires about two thirds of the Sherubtse graduates while the remainder readily find work in the private sector or working for non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
In June 2003 the school was combined with 9 other institutes of higher learning to form the Royal University of Bhutan.

The Sharchops appear to mix Indian and Tibetan blood whereas the Ngalops of central and western Bhutan appear to be mainly Tibetan.
There are several tourist packages to Bhutan that include trips from Thimphu to Trashigang, despite the 17 hour journey from the capital over the rough and dangerous Lateral Road.
Trashigang dzongkhag is also the site of Sherubtse College, the original college within the Royal University of Bhutan system.

His Royal Highness Chhoetse Penlop Jigme Khesar Namgyal Wangchuck was formally installed as the heir to the Golden Throne of the Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan in 2004.
In 2002, he represented Bhutan at the 27th UN General Assembly and addressed the leaders of 190 member nations during the UN special session for children, one of the most important international conferences ever held to create a world fit for children.
His Royal Highness, who is chancellor of the Royal University of Bhutan, will receive an honorary degree on the 20th anniversary of UNB's relationship with Bhutan.

Samtse (older spelling Samchi), is one of the 20 dzongkhag (districts) comprising Bhutan.
Cardamon and oranges are the predominate cash crops, although most farmers practice subsistence farming.
Samtse is the site of one of the two campuses of the National Institute of Education, a college for teachers which is part of the Royal University of Bhutan system.

King Jigme Singye Wangchuck governs with the support of a National Assembly, a Cabinet, a Council of Ministers (the Royal Advisory Council), and the Monastic Body, a 3,500-member body that is headed by 4 representatives with the consent of the King.

The department of English at the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton is the latest contributor to the university’s ongoing initiative to enhance the educational system in Bhutan.
“The Bhutan Ministry of Education is interested in developing a course of studies that meets the standards of other English speaking countries,” said William Buggie, co-ordinator of the education component.
Its main goals are to strengthen the capacity of teacher training institutes in Bhutan, upgrade the academic background of secondary-school teachers and post-secondary lecturers, and enhance the capacity of the curriculum and professional support services and the Bhutan Board of Examinations.

The Prime Minister of Bhutan, Lyonpo Kinzang Dorji inaugurated the Royal University of Bhutan on June 2nd coinciding with the 29th Coronation Day of His Majesty the King, Jigme Singye Wangchuck.
The Heads of the institutes that fall under the University also presented Tashi Khadar to the Vice Chancellor and in turn they received the Royal Charter and the Statutes of the University.
Addressing the historic function the Prime Minister Lyonpo Kinzang Dorji said that the Royal University of Bhutan should produce and propel the high-order human resource capacity necessary for the overall growth and development of Bhutan.

Several of the staff have been on academic training overseas in the likes of Reading and Wageningen Universities.
  Collaborative programmes exists or are being investigated / set-up between the Technical University of Munich, University of Copenhagen, Sherubtse College, Royal University of Bhutan and regional consultancy companies in India (eg Kampsax).
The most important land-use type is wetland rice – chhushing – but a very wide range of crops is grown from the staples (maize etc to potatoes), vegetables crops of all varieties plus cash fruit crops such as apples, citrus etc.

While studying geology atthe University of Colorado in Boulder, Sebastian Beckwith passed much of his free time exploring the Rocky Mountains.
Soon, he was working for an adventure travel company, leading high-altitude treks in Bhutan.
As executive director of the America Bhutan Council, Sebastian still visits Bhutan twice a year, participating in their projects and leading trips into the mountains along the Tibetan border.
