We did not have to wait long for the first fixture between the reigning first division champions Royton ‘A’ and the fancied Werneth ‘A’, which resulted in a 6-4 win for Royton despite 3 wins from Werneth’s Darryl Meredith over his ex team mates.
Royton Cricket Club ‘A’ team, Division 1 champions for the last 8 seasons, should have a more difficult time this season defending their title since the ‘transfer’ of Daryl Meredith to rivals Werneth Cricket Club.
Aerospace, Royton ‘B’ and Hamer could also be in the shake up.

Royton Town Football Club started out life as the Stotts Benham works side in the Rochdale Alliance League, before changing their name to Royton Town in 1985.
Within three seasons, Royton went from the Second Division into the Premier Division of the LAL, however ground problems at their Monarch Mill home in Royton led to them demoted back to the First Division by the LAL, and saw them looking around for a new home.
Royton's debut season in the Manchester League proved to be one of the best in the Club's history, the First Division Championship being claimed after a free-scoring campaign, and with it, elevation to the Premier Division.

We will be having a Fun Day at the club on Sunday 7th August from 11am-4pm on behalf of the cricket section to raise money for a much needed mower for the outfield.
As part of Diversity festival in Oldham, Groundwork are holding a cricket fun day on Saturday 16th July with coaching from 10am-noon, lunch will be from 12-1pm and there will be some fun games of cricket in the afternoon.
Particular thanks to Eddie who generously allowed the club to keep almost half of his £50 prize and also to Honest Kath and Careful Alan, as dubbed by our MC for the evening, Paul Royal.
