Data for plasma loge ý-lac and loge ·-lg concentrations were adjusted for date of calving and (in the Ruakura herd) for stocking rate and age of cow, and regressions and correlations were estimated with subsequent lactation yields of milk, milkfat, protein and lactose (also adjusted for known fixed effects including lactation length).
Correlations of adjusted loge ý-lac with adjusted yields in the Ruakura herd were 0.33 (P<0.05) for milk, 0.29 (P<0.05) for milkfat, 0.25 for protein and 0.32 (P<0.05) for lactose.
After adjusting yields additionally in the Ruakura herd for live weight, correlations of adjusted loge ý-lac with adjusted yields ranged from 0.35 to 0.40 (mostly P<0.01), and residual standard deviations of yield were further reduced (e.g.

 Morris & Wheeler—Genetic studies of cattle twinning rate
The Ruakura herd had a mean annual twin calving rate over all years (1985–2000) of 11.2%, and in recent years (1998–2000) of 13.3%.
One of the most elite cow-families in the herd (12 cows spanning five generations since the foundation cow) had an annual twin calving rate averaging 31% (seven of the cows producing at least one twin set in their lifetime), while another family of seven cows included three sets of 3-times twinning cows.
Heritabilities of annual and lifetime twin calving in the Ruakura herd (cows born in 1983–1998) were 0.081 ± 0.031 and 0.25 ± 0.07, respectively.

Born in Te Kuiti, Dr Phillips obtained a Masters degree in Physics before beginning his career at the Ruakura Research Centre in Hamilton in 1947.
He retired in 1986, but during his nearly 40-year career his work was instrumental in increasing dairy farming efficiency and contributing millions of dollars to the New Zealand economy.

News that New Zealand's bee resarch unit at Ruakura had missed out on major funding has set beekeepers and related industries buzzing.
As the varroa bee mite creeps down the North Island and will almost certainly cross Cook Strait in time, industry sources fear the effects if the unit is closed before completing its research.
HortResearch chief executive Paul McGilvary said FRST scored funding applications on a competitive points system and although he was told the bee research unit had scored very well, it failed to make the grade for funding.

If the egg recovery is done at your own farm but the embryos are to be transferred into recipients at farms different than your own you need to comply with the attached health requirements.
Having the animals at Ruakura should be advantageous for the client since it reduces substantially the costs of travelling to and from the farms twice a week.
