Dyer was a ruckman, the 185 cm figure not particularly tall for the position even in that era.
Dyer also was a radio broadcaster - for many years he and Ian Major called football matches for radio station 3KZ (KZ-FM after the station converted to FM in 1990) as The Captain and The Major.

 Gordon Coventry - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Gordon 'Nuts' Coventry was an Australian rules football player who played the full-forward position for the Collingwood Football Club in that club's great teams of the 1920s and 1930s.
Gordon's brother Syd Coventry was also an excellent Collingwood footballer, playing as a ruckman in the same teams, and also winning the Brownlow Medal in 1927.
He was also the first man to kick 100 goals in a single season, and led the league in goalkicking 6 times, including 5 in a row between 1926 and 1930.
