THE ORIGIN OF VALUE IN A TRANSCENDENT FUNCTION
Jung seems to have wished to provide for that possibility because of a belief that respectable science would expect materialism [141]--and since the ontological term in the theory was not practically essential to it anyway, there was not much point in making matters more difficult than necessary.
Jung's private beliefs, on the other hand, were principally derived from Kant and Schopenhauer, and consequently there is always in his thought the background notion of underlying identity between subject and object [142].
Jung, however, was mainly viewing the relationship as a theoretical and passive one, that unconscious contents are manifest in dreams, spontaneous fantasies, myths, etc., and of course the contents he was concerned with were Archetypal in the less general sense that suited his purpose.

Freud, Jung and Spiritual Psychology - Rudolf Steiner Anthroposophy book
While Steiner agrees that the phenomena originating psychoanalysis are real, he claims that because Freud did not recognize spirit, the human soul experience was cut off from the larger whole and reduced to subjective, personal history.
Rudolf Steiner (1861-1925) called his spiritual philosophy 'anthroposophy', which he defined as 'the consciousness of one's humanity', and the disciplined methods of studying this he termed ‘spiritual science’.
He is co-director of the School of Spiritual Psychology in North Carolina, which is based on the spiritual science of Rudolf Steiner.

 Jungian Thought
Jung and Steiner: The Birth of a New Psychology by Gerhard Wehr, with a foreword by Robert Sardello (Anthroposophic Press) A series of extraordinary questions begin to hover when we consider the names C. Jung and Rudolf Steiner together: What is the difference between soul and spiritual consciousness?
Jung and Steiner bears witness to the birth of a new psychology.
Jung makes quite a point of That took place in human history right around 1500 the ego took a giant leap forward in its hubristic efforts, and the God-image fell out of heaven and into the psyche of man. The awareness of human subjectivity was born new place all by himself.

Thus, in both Jung and Steiner, we find a continual criticism of the way things are in the world, an urging to throw off the immediate past and to seek to establish both a soul and a spirit perspective for the future of humanity.
Jung leaves the impression of having a simultaneous fear and attraction to the realm of the dead.
Jung, of course, is more sophisticated concerning image than this, and we have the distinct feeling in his work that image, more than picture content, is that through which content appears.

Jung adopted as his own unshakable foundation for psychology the restriction of Kant's phenomenal world and the closing of the door to the noumenon.
Jung clearly emphasizes the religious character of the psyche, but wants to hold that soul is influenced by many archetypal myths besides the Christian myth.

Jung often seemed to view the archetypes as sort of psychological organs, directly analogous to our physical, bodily organs: both being morphological givens for the species; both arising at least partially through evolutionary processes.
The dissertation is a theoretical study examining the parallels between Platonic philosophy and Jungian psychology, the Platonic self and Jung’s archetype of the self.
His archetype of the self is therefore a dual unity, referred to in the study as the dialogic archetype of the self.

Bob & Nancy's Bookshop - Anthroposophy - Books on Spiritual Psychology
For a very long time now, I have felt that it was a profound loss to the world that Carl Jung and Rudolf Steiner looked at each other's work and believed it to be based on fallacy.
It seems to me that these two were looking at the same phenomena from different perspectives and with a different set of goals - that both their perspectives and goals were valid, but that they were unable to cross the bridge of imagination that separated them.
Gerhard Wehr, who is both an Anthroposophist and a biographer of C.G. Jung, answers these questions and explores what a psychology that comprehends both soul and spirit would begin to look like.
