In 561 the kingdom of Burgundy was reconstructed by Guntram, son of Clotaire I., and until 613 it formed a separate state under the government of a prince of the Merovingian family.
After 613 Burgundy was one of the provinces of the Frankish kingdom, but in the redistributions that followed the reign of Charlemagne the various parts of the ancient kingdom had different fortunes.
In 888 the kingdom of Juran Burgundy was founded by Rudolph I., son of Conrad, count of Auxerre, and the German king Arnulf could not succeed in expelling the usurper, whose authority was recognized in the diocese of Besancon, Basel, Lausanne, Geneva and Sion.

Rudolph of Burgundy (also Raoul or Ralph) (died January 15, 936) was duke of Burgundy between 921/923 and King of Western Francia from this date to his death.
Rudolph inherited the duchy of Burgundy from his father, Richard of Autun, but was elected king of France in 923, by an assembly of nobles, to substitute Robert I of France.
Assuming the crown, he passed Burgundy to his younger brother, Hugh the Black, after only two years as duke.

 Rudolph I of Germany
Rudolph I (Rudolph of Hapsburg) (1218-1291), German king, son of Albert IV, count of Habsburg, and Hedwig, daughter of Ulrich count of Kyburg, was born at Limburg an der Lahn on May 1, 1218.
Rudolph was crowned at Aix-la-Chapelle on the 24th of October 1273, and the feast which followed has been described by Friedrich Schiller in Der Graf von Hapsburg.
Rudolph died at Speyer on the July 15, 1291 and was buried in the cathedral of that city.
