It nests in rock cavities, laying 4-5 eggs.

The Blue Rock Thrush winters in the Indian plains, departing for its breeding grounds in Mar-April, so it could be the Rock Thrush.
The Rock Thrush almost always like rocky, stony habitat, it is unlikely to be found in a forested habitat.
Monticola saxatilis is Rufous-tailed Rock Thrush and itis smaller than a Bulbul.

Still in the desert we visited a Muslim cemetery and had excellent views of Saxaul Sparrow, Common Nightingale, Rufous Bush-robin and brief views of Asian Desert Warbler.
Rock and White-capped Buntings sang from the crags and both Rufous-tailed and Blue Rock-thrushes showed well.
The drive to the lake was interrupted by the occasional stop for such birds as nesting Eastern Rock Nuthatch, four Steppe Eagles and Common 'Steppe' Buzzard.

Pit-bulls were living side by side with teenage couples and their babies, rocked by pounding music that could be heard miles around.
At Drigas, I was able to watch a Rufous-tailed Rock Thrush (Monticola saxatalis) for quite a long time and, later on at Les Herans, 30 Griffon Vultures were gaining altitude in a thermal.
The "Vases" are huge blocks of rocks balanced on the edge of the cliffs and adding to the beauty of the path hanging along the sides of the gorges.

Rock Buntings with recently fledged chicks and most of the group were surprised by the size of the
(Rufous-tailed) Rock Thrush One on the way to the Col des Especiéres and one in the Ossoue Valley both on 24th and 2 at the Col du Tourmalet on 26th.
Rock Bunting Only noted on 24th when a pair with at least one very recently fledged chick were seen on the roadside close to Gavarnie.

There will be some prominent rocks on the opposite side of the road (where we noted Eastern Black-eared Wheatear and Isabelline Wheatear) and walk beyond these and slightly uphill following a path across the grass for c.400 yards until you reach an obvious clearing in the coniferous trees where you are lower than the forest.
On standing at the entrance to this clearing and looking ahead and to the right, you will see a corner of obvious gradual rocky ledges that can be ascended to the left of the path to reach the start of the tree line.
Previous trips have located Pale Rock Sparrow in this area but we were unsuccessful in our quest to locate this species (presumably due to the dispersive nature of the species and potentially the time of year that we visited).

 French Pyrenees Trip Report
Another Rufous-tailed Rock Thrush was seen by one member of the group and then everyone saw the Lammergeier that flew from the cliffs high above us dwarfing the Alpine and Red-billed Choughs that were in the same air space.
We reached an area of rocks that produced an even greater range of Alpine flora but the highlight here turned out to be a species that we had failed to find earlier in the week, Alpine Accentor.
Rufous-tailed Rock Thrush: A male was well seen in the Ossoue valley on 22nd and then the species was also glimpsed at Tourmalet on 23rd and at Troumouse on 26th

Over half of the forest is virgin and some trees are thought to be over 200 years old.
There is also nearly 100ha of alpine meadow included in the reserve, while 470ha is bare rock.
The fauna is varied this reserve is the only one in the Stara Planina where chamois occur.

What could be better than watching Rock Nuthatches feeding their young in the Delphi ruins or seeing Red-backed Shrikes on every bush and fencepost as they migrated north over Lesvos?
That is, until we found the Rufous-tailed Rock-Thrush, Alpine Chough and Rock Bunting on top of Mt. Parnassos.
The muses were again good to us, as we watched European Cuckoos chasing each other in the woods, listened to Serins singing their buzzy songs and enjoying a very obliging Hawfinch that sat in full view for all of us to see.

This species also appears as a white morph in which the back and tail streamers are almost pure white.
When it flew to a perch or hovered to catch an insect, it was one of the most graceful creatures that you could ever imagine.
We occasionally saw their faces and twitching tails, but they were mostly hidden in the high grass.

 Pyrenees trip report
The walk up to the Cirque was a constant succession of birds - Garden warblers, serins, a family of mistle thrushes, pied flycatcher, gold and firecrest, crested tit, and an adult bearded vulture which passed over our heads as if showing off.
Excited Frenchmen demanded a view and pronounced that it was a kingfisher, to be put right by those of us with educational leanings.
There were few migrants but we did see rufous-tailed rock thrush, northern wheatears and redstarts among the bushes close by.

A word of warning or two: the dogs are a menace, and distances are awfully hard to judge due to the very clean air and expansive landscape.

Xining is a small city lying at about 2500m in a river valley that cuts into the northeastern edge of the Tibetan Plateau.
Day 8 Nangqian is a small market town situated on the upper Mekong, which here runs from northwest to southeast through a deep, rather arid but dramatically beautiful gorge partly clothed in scrub.
Here amidst strangely sculpted rock pinnacles is the hermitage of Tashiy Do, an ancient site of Buddhist meditation consisting of numerous cave temples and grottoes that is still in use even today.

Some of the specialities of the area are the diminutive Somali Bee-eater, the comical White-headed Mousebird, the localized Brown-tailed Rock Chat, the stunning little Golden Pipit, the fabulous Golden-breasted Starling and the wonderfully-named Donaldson-Smith's Sparrow-Weaver.
Normally we will be largely confined to our vehicles whilst in the reserves, but on one day we shall visit an area of lava desert where we shall be able to walk around with one of the reserve guards in search of the little-known and localized Williams's and Masked Larks.
The persistent squeak of Black-faced Rufous Warblers and the joyful duets of Chubb's Cisticolas are commonly heard sounds at Kakamega, but we will also be hoping for such secretive species as Brown-chested Alethe and Brown, Scaly-breasted and Grey-chested Illadopsises to betray their presence by their whistled calls.

The attractive animals known as Chamois ("Gamuza" in Spanish) occur on the rocks of the mountains.

Here were Horned Larks, Black Redstarts, Isabelline Wheatears, Rufous-necked Snowfinches and Twites, not to mention the bizarre little Hume’s Ground Jay, or Hume’s Groundpecker, a bird that looks like a strangely redesigned Isabelline Wheatear and which may in fact not be closely related to other ground jays or even to corvids in general!
We had to pay a high price for the latter: after puffing and panting up a ridge our quiet reveries with the redstart were eventually terminated by the arrival of a dramatic thunderstorm, complete with driving hail the size of large peas!
Eventually we reached the little hermitage at Tashiy Do where spectacular rock formations mark the old raised lakeshore.

Whether it is a potential species split or not, I don't know.
Carrion and Hoodie crows readily interbreed where they meet in Western Scotland so I suppose interbreeding will not necessarily preclude a split (or will it?).
