		Rugby League in New Zealand is under the control of the New Zealand Rugby League, which runs the national competition, the Bartercard Cup and the national team, the Kiwis.
		The National Rugby League is the result of a merger between the Australian Super League and the Australian Rugby League in 1998.

		Several people pointed out that no other amateur sport had a national league – not Hockey, not Rugby Union; the only national leagues were in the professional sports, such as Soccer and Rugby League (and the latter was hardly truly national, as it was restricted to Yorkshire, Lancashire and Cumbria).
		The new League pressed on undaunted, and its quality was shown when eight of their number reached reached the last 16 of the National Championship, but that title remained in London, with the University beating Central YMCA 68-59 in the Final, held at South Ruislip.
		Dolobran had won the National Championship Cup (then the premier competition in the country) in 1951, and finished as losing finalists in ’52, ’53, ’55 and ’59, while Aspley were the 1959 winners.

		The recent history of the this rivalry is that last year, at the Rugby World Cup, France stunned everyone by thrashing the All-Blacks in the semi-finals at Twickenham (kinda the Yankee Stadium of rugby, in England) before losing to Australia in the final.
		The French television commentators covering the national team have complained that all the referees seem to be Anglophones and “why can’t there be French-speaking referees for the French team?” (The French captain has a teammate translator for discussions with the referee, a frequent occurrence in rugby.) Well, all the referees at Uzès’ level are French.
		Apparently the league's plan is to not allow Uzès to be demoted no matter how bad they are…all’s fair in rugby, love and war.
