Bill Ruger: America's Gunmaker   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-14)
The ability of Bill Ruger to read the firearms market as if through a crystal ball has been demonstrated over and over again, but there is no better example than that of his reintroducing the single action revolver to the shooting world in 1953.
Were it not for the foresight and willingness of Ruger to follow his instinct with the resurrection of the single action, we most likely would have not seen the revival of the Colt Single Action Army, or any of its many copies available today.
Ruger has proven the strength of castings throughout the years by using the process in the manufacture high-stress gun parts such as receivers and bolt heads.

Ruger is now offering this new finish on a few of their double action revolvers in limited numbers.

Ruger designed these guns to be rugged and very stout, but I have always considered them to be duty-sized pistols; excellent for holster carry by an outdoorsman, hunter, or police officer, but not very good for concealment.
Where Ruger really made significant reductions in the bulk of the pistol is in the overall width of the pistol.
Ruger has incorporated an integral lock into the P345 that is unobtrusive and almost invisible.

The Gun Zone -- William B. Ruger, Sr.   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-14)
After Sturm died in 1951, Ruger led his company to become the largest firearms manufacturer in the United States, and that little "Luger look-a-like" is still one of the most popular rimfire pistols in use today.
"Ruger was a true firearms genius who mastered the disciplines of inventing, designing, engineering, manufacturing and marketing better than anyone since Samuel Colt," said firearms historian R.L. Wilson, Ruger's biographer (Ruger and His Guns: A History of the Man, the Company and Their Firearms).
Ruger was founder and chairman emeritus of the publicly-traded Sturm, Ruger & Co., the largest firearms manufacturer in the U.S. The company manufactures rifles, shotguns, revolvers and pistols for a variety of law-enforcement and sporting purposes, with a New Hampshire plant in Newport, a plant in Prescott, and corporate headquarters in Southport, Connecticut.

 The New Super Redhawk Alaskan
Ruger’s primary reason for returning to the two-spring system when developing the Super Redhawk design was that a two-spring action allowed the use of more conventionally styled stocks than the original Redhawk design allowed.
Ruger provided an early engineering performance prototype of the Super Redhawk Alaskan model: a standard 7 1/2-inch.454 Casull gun with the rifled bore portion of the barrel cut to Alaskan length with only a reference pin for the front sight location.
Ruger spokesmen candidly acknowledge that they have never expected the.454 Super Redhawk in any form to be shot a lot for casual plinking or for steel-target competition.

Ruger is celebrating 50 years of the classic.44 magnum Blackhawk by producing a special limited-edition Flattop that combines the best of Ruger's new design elements with the revolver's most popular original features.
Last year Sturm, Ruger & Co. (Dept. ST, 200 Ruger Rd., Prescott, AZ 86301; 928-541-8820; www.ruger.com) marked the single-action Blackhawk's 50th anniversary with the introduction of a special-edition.357 Magnum Blackhawk that featured many new innovations while appealing to shooters from a particularly nostalgic angle.
As loyal Shooting Times readers know, original Ruger Blackhawks were often referred to by shooters as the "Flattop" because the rear sight did not have the protective sight shoulders of later models.

The Gun Zone RKBA -- William B. Ruger, Sr.'s dirty little secret   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-14)
Unfortunately the lessons of Munich and Neville Chamberlain seemed to have been lost on the senior Ruger in the post-Stockton madness, for his creative approach was to toss the high capacity magazine "baby from the sleigh" in the desperate hope of appeasing the pursuing legislative wolves.
He had his Sturm, Ruger braintrust prepare model legislation centered around this high capacity magazine prohibition with the fervent hope that "the guns [would be] saved." He even consulted with some others about this approach, including Neal Knox who attempted to dissuade him in the strongest possible terms (for Neal, anyway) from his foolhardy initiative.
This quickly led cynics in the firearms community to speculate as to Ruger's true motives, for one of the major competitors to his then new P-85 series of pistols was the Glock 17, the only pistol around (other than the scarce and unwieldy Steyr GB) with a greater than 15 round magazine capacity.

The reason for George's bullishness on Sturm Ruger is the Senate's passage last Friday of the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (S. 397) by a 65-to-31 vote.
George says this legislation removes a huge overhang from Ruger's shares--not just by eliminating potential liability from individual lawsuits, but because it frees management to focus on the business and not its legal affairs.
Based on Tuesday's close, Sturm Ruger trades for 29 times the $0.35 per share that the single analyst who follows the stock believes it will earn in 2005.
