		A HUGE crowd of jubilant Rukungiri residents welcomed FDC presidential candidate Kizza Besigye to the district on Tuesday, as he campaigned in the south-western region.
		Besigye, who hails from Rukungiri, was visiting the district for the first time since he was arrested on November 14, 2005.
		In many schools, mid-morning and afternoon classes were interrupted as primary and secondary school children in uniform, along with their teachers, joined the frenzy and went to the rally venues.

		Kampala - Security officials in Rukungiri have sealed off the scene of the mass suicide in Kanungu, where between 300 and 600 people are feared to have perished in an inferno at the church.
		Relatives and local authorities said the leader of the Movement for the Restoration of the Ten Commandments cult, self-styled Bishop Joseph Kibwetere, 68, was among the dead.
		He said an excavator was being brought from Rukungiri to bury the dead in a mass grave.

		Kizza Besigye sped through his home district today in a whirlwind, dust-raising campaign tour in which he made numerous short stops to greet and thank his home crowd for their tremendous support since he returned from exile and to ask for their votes.
		He then went to Bwambara Sub County where he found a huge crowd of people greeted them and told them not to vote for him as their son but as someone who is going to work for the entire country.
		Rukungiri Stadium was filled to capacity but he addressed the gathering for about 8 minutes only.

		The overall objectives of this longitudinal study were to describe morbidity and mortality patterns of dairy calves from birth to 1 year of age and to examine calf and herd management practices as risk factors for calf morbidity and mortality.
		The annual crude calf mortality rate in Rukungiri District of 8.23% is comparably low, it corresponds to a crude calf mortality of 0.34 cases per 1000 calf days at risk.
		It is concluded that calf management in Rukungiri District still follows traditional, haphazard procedures, rather than accommodating needs of modern dairy herds.

		Two days before Uganda's March 12 presidential election, the people of Rukungiri should have been out cheering and supporting their presidential hopeful Col. (retired) Dr. Kizza Besigye, the main contender to incumbent President Yoweri Museveni.
		According to the elder, trouble started on March 2 when PPU soldiers, at the urging of Rukungiri's Resident District Commissioner (RDC)'s office, beat up and jailed Besigye officials who were putting up posters to prepare for Besigye's rally.
		The Uganda Joint Christian Council - consisting of the Catholic, Anglican, and Orthodox churches - has criticized the government for stationing the PPU in Rukungiri District, the area where competition between Museveni and Besigye is the most intense.

	The EastAfrican
		Criminal Investigation Department boss, J.B. Okumu wrote to the Rukungiri Division Police Commander directing him to investigate alleged links between the Kanungu doomsday cult and the rebel Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) operating in western Uganda.
