There is certainly a lot of humor in Rumble in the Bronx, as there would be in pretty much any Chan film, so a little unintentional humor is hardly going to ruin things.
The ending is a bit silly and far too neat, as the filmmakers seem to have been unsure of a good way to wrap up the plot, but considering we’re talking about a martial arts film with a lot of comedic aspects, there’s not a whole lot to complain about on the plot front.
An entertaining romp with fun action scenes, Rumble in the Bronx may or may not be aware of some of what’s funny about it, but the intentionally funny scenes definitely work and the rest aren’t that bad.

Like Keaton, Chan does his own stunts, and you can see that it really is him jumping off a bridge onto a speeding boat, or clinging to the dangling ladder of a helicopter as the hostile pilot tries to shake him loose by smashing him into the sides of skyscrapers.
Not that it matters, really, but the plot of Rumble in the Bronx has something to do with Chan helping the woman who has taken over his uncle's neighborhood market when she is harassed by local hoodlums.
Rumble in the Bronx doesn't rank with his best work, but it's a swell introduction to a unique star.

The main problem with Rumble is that none of the opponents in the film are a match for Jackie.
At first I was fairly skeptical on New Line choosing Rumble in the Bronx for Jackie's introduction into the US market, since Drunken Master 2 and Thunderbolt are much better recent Chan films.
If you have only heard about the legend of Jackie Chan, then Rumble in the Bronx is an excellent starter course in Chanology.

That's beside the point, since the attraction of RUMBLE is the spectacular fight scenes where Chan's underdog persona is put to the test.
Though not as good a story or movie as POLICE STORY or SUPER COP, there's plenty of fun in RUMBLE for an enjoyable evening at the movies.

Still, after 20 years in the business, the $20 million Rumble is his first film to approach the production standards of a Hollywood action movie.
Even neophytes will recognize that the story is Cheez Whiz, the acting is over the top, the settings are Disneyland-fake (standing in for the Bronx are the rolling hills of Vancouver), and the villains are cartoonishly unthreatening.
At the heart of it all is the indefatigable Jackie, and Rumble certainly serves as a satisfying, crowd-pleasing introduction to America.

Because the dialogue was rerecorded in post-production, it still has some of the mismatched lip movement associated with dubbing, but there's not enough talking for this to become a major distraction.
Of course, no one comes to a Jackie Chan movie for dialogue or a strong narrative; viewers are there for the visceral thrill of watching the hero knock down bad guys like bowling pins while leaping tall buildings and hurling himself through the air.
In Rumble, Chan does all his typical eye-popping stunts, including an amazing jump onto a hovercraft (which cost him a broken ankle) and a waterskiing sequence accomplished without skis.
