  Bill Lewis Review: sato
Rumina Sato demonstrates a ton of moves in the 1 hour program.
On one move Sato crossed his feet on juji-gatame without securing the far arm with his feet.
Sato's preferred method of using the legs was to figure-four (similar to the triangle choke) his legs around his opponent's waist.

 Shooto 03/11/05: "Pequeno & Rumina"
You could feel the crowd’s anticipation for Rumina to spring his trademark move –the fearsome “Instant Kill!” But Ishikawa somehow escaped from the triangle and managed to stay on top—that is until Rumina was able to reverse the position by grabbing Ishikawa’s leg.
Rumina quickly countered with a sharp kick that landed on Ishikawa’s face, causing Rumina to be penalized with a one point deduction—in SHOOTO, kicking at an opponent’s face from the bottom position is illegal.
Rumina reminded viewers of the Rumina Sato of old, when he was at the peak of his career.

While Sato was strong in all aspects of the sport - he can land deadly kicks and punches as well as grapple on the floor - Aizik felt Gerson would have his best chance if he got in close and grappled on the floor with his opponent.
Once he got Sato in the submission hold, with one of his legs across Sato's stomach, the other under his chin and pushing down hard, Gerson waited for his opponent to give up.
Sato is expected in Toronto for that event, and depending on the draw, he and Gerson could end up fighting each other again.

Negotiations are underway for an August 20th fight between Gilbert Melendez and Rumina Sato.
Sato is a proverbial legend in the MMA world.
Melendez's size and pure grappling ability has proven to be Sato's bane in the past, but the Japanese fighter has shown that he can go in against stronger fighters, and do it for the duration, when he decisioned Makoto Ishikawa (a Purebred fighter under the always aggressive Enson Inoue) in his most recent victory.

Sato is known for his skills in punching and kicking as well as ground fighting.
Almost four minutes into the first round, his legs already discoloured from Sato's kicks, Gerson found an opening and pinned his opponent to the mat in an arm bar, hyperextending Sato's elbow in a firm lock.
He had locked Sato in such a tight hold -- with his legs, arms and hips -- that when the referee finally called an end to the fight because he feared Sato's arm would break, Gerson couldn't get to his feet.

Sato shot a single leg while the opening bell was still ringing and as Takumi sprawled, the Shooto legend acrobatically spun around his back and chopped away as he sunk in the leg scissors.
Sato wanted to stand up out of it but Takumi wouldn't unlock his feet and the ref had to break it up.
Sato got the only takedowns, always to danger, had the only dominant positions (he had back mount and sidemount, Takumi never got better than being on top of guard), the effective g'n'p from back mount, and the standup was even.

So, it was Shooto legends such as Rumina Sato, Caol Uno, and most recently Takanori Gomi, which have at different times dominated this weight class in this particular Japanese MMA lightweight division.
But, there are distant rumors of a Samurai from the "land of the rising sun" heading his way; they say he gunned down the legendary Sato, who had once choked out our "lone star" hero in Japanese territory.
But this cowboy's eyes are sharp, he is focused and ready to strike, in search of sword wielding warriors riding in from over the neon sunset.
