On April 1, 2005 the towns of Sawara and Mori from Kayabe District merged to form the new town of Mori.
On October 1, 2005 the town of Kumaishi from Nishi District in Hiyama Subprefecture and the town of Yakumo from Yamakoshi District in Oshima Subprefecture merged to form the new town of Yakumo in the newly created Futami District.
On February 1, 2006 the towns of Kamiiso from Kamiiso District and Ono from Kameda District merged to form the new city of Hokuto.
