  RUN, RONNIE, RUN!
RONNIE DOBBS, the hero of RUN, RONNIE, RUN!, is quite a bit like David Spades Joe Dirt.

Show" have expanded their considerable talents into movie form with "Run Ronnie Run," which is by turns hilarious and amateurish, but which is mostly very entertaining.
Ronnie Dobbs (David Cross) is a well-known figure in Doravilla, Ga., liked by everyone except the cops, who arrest him regularly for reckless juvenilism like urinating in the reservoir or stealing a school bus.
He whisks Ronnie away from Doraville and puts him in his own reality TV show: "Ronnie Dobbs Gets Arrested," where he is dropped into a different city every week, left to his own devices, and inevitably arrested by the local fuzz.

Ronnie Dobbs' claim to fame is having made the most appearances ever on the television show "COPS" - having been arrested countless times for his (often drunkenly inspired) antics.
Ronnie is the "It" boy of Hollywood, and much of the rest of the film attempts to derive its humor from the fish-out-of-water story and a rather large number of celebrity cameos (some funny, some needless).
Of course, Ronnie still has to learn his lesson about what really matters in life (his wife, friends, beer), and for the most part the movie either avoids or ridicules the standard cliches employed in most stories like this.

 Run Ronnie Run!
Ronnie Dobbs is a lovable public figure in his small town in Georgia, kind of a redneck mullet-sportin' icon because he's never grown up, and still gets arrested a few times a week for sophomoric drunken stunts like riggin' the bowling return machines to spit out balls at cannon velocity, or stealin' the school bus.
Ronnie gets arrested so often, and offers such totally implausible excuses to the police, that he is noticed by a Hollywood producer who is desperate for a new "Cops"-like reality show.
The producer bails Ronnie out and drags him to California to star in a one-man reality show called: "Ronnie Dobbs Gets Arrested," in which the unshaven bumpkin is dropped into a different city every week, and eventually arrested.

The truth, sad as it is, is pretty much that: Run Ronnie Run would have been a solid debut feature for anybody else, but for Bob and David, it is a relative disappointment.
Second, the pacing and structure of the film is dulled by the use of Ronnie's friend Clay (David Koechner) as the narrator.
Run Ronnie Run is good enough, certainly compared to the so-called "comedies" that fill the theaters every day, to have deserved better than it got in the hands of New Line.
