Rungnado May Day Stadium - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Rungnado May First Stadium, or May Day Stadium, is a monumental stadium in Pyongyang, North Korea completed on May 1, 1989.
Its names come from Rungna Island on the Taedong River, upon which it is situated, and May Day, the international day celebrating labor and particularly celebrated among communists.
In May of 2002 it was the site of the colossal and meticulously choreographed "Arirang" gymnastic and artistic performance in honor of Kim's 60th birthday.

North Koreans are flocking to Pyongyang for a massive festival ostensibly marking Korea's Aug. 15 Liberation Day and the 60th anniversary of the Workers Party of Korea.
Every day, tens of thousands are taking buses, trains, subways and even walking to the Rungnado May First Stadium, a rare occurrence in North Korea, where the movement of residents is tightly controlled.
Also on this day, new summer food was offered to ancestors at the family shrine and the graveyard.

IGN Boards - has this stadium ever been in winning eleven?
i was just wondering because i found out that this stadium is in gran turismo 3 next to the tokyo track and i thought it would be cool if the same stadium was in winning eleven and gran turismo.
Yes, allegedly it's the Rungnado May First Stadium (May Day Stadium), North Korea, with a capacity of 150,000 (seated)...but nobody has ever seen it.
The Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) has had an attendance of c.200,000, but that's purely due to a lack of seats...and complete disregard for human life.

Xtratime Community - Salt Lake Stadium biggest one in the world?
Because the May Day isn't a Football Stadium but for cultural events and Maracana has today "only" a capacity of 103.000.
So I'm right cause the Czech Stadium isn't for football games and the May Day Stadium is only for cultural events.
So the Salt Lake Stadium is the biggest Football Stadium in the world.

Can someone who chose Soldier Field justify their selection for me. I live in Chicago, so I should be defending it, but I think its an average NFL stadium, certainly not one of the best.
The fact that it isnt an average NFL stadia is why I like it, some of the best use of asemetrical design I'v seen in a stadium plus the way the old neo classical sections have been included is very impressive IMHO.

Sheard is Senior Principal of HOK Sport, the unchallenged world leader in stadium design, and his company has been involved in most (if not all) of the venues included in the book, something that should have been made clear on the cover.
HOK Sport has not, thus far, been involved in many projects in Asia (Nanjing Sports Park is the only one featured in the book), which explains why none of Japan’s impressive stadiums are mentioned (Sapporo Dome can adapt from baseball to soccer at the press of a button).
Herzog and de Meuron’s epochal Olympic Stadium under construction in Beijing and the gargantuan 150,000-seat Rungnado May Day Stadium in Pyongyang both deserve space in a truly “global” discussion.

They desperately need the move to the new stadium, which has thankfully now been granted and the two and a half years inbetween really cannot pass quickly enough and I only hope that they'll still be in the second tier of the league when they finally move.
These days, shock results in either league or cup come around quite regularly and whilst they may not be two-a-penny, the quality between the clubs is being reduced when you take the big few out of the equation.
