"Running Scared" is certainly in that same vein, and it also reminds me of John Woo's "The Killer".
But where this film lacks the dialog of a Tarantino film, it is a lot more visually stylish than anything QT has ever done.
Bottom line, if you were disappointed by films like "Kill Bill" and "Sin City", films you really wanted to like but found them too cartoonishly clichéd, you'll be more than satisfied with "Running Scared".

Of all the absurdities in "Running Scared" -- and there are many -- it's hard to top this.
Ten-year-old Oleg (Cameron Bright), on the run from his meth-cooking abusive Russian stepfather, the cops and warring mobsters, ducks into an unlocked van in a parking lot looking for a safe place to hide.
"Running Scared" is like the proverbial car wreck; you slow down to watch if the coroner's wagon or an ambulance is pulling up.

In the end, Running Scared is a movie with a good idea and some decent execution but the misses in the movie are enormous and will probably leave a bitter taste in the mouths of most people who see it.

Speaking of movies that go over the top, "Running Scared" goes so far over the top, it circumnavigates the top and doubles back on itself; it's the Mobius Strip of over-the-topness.
You won't catch him acting in "Running Scared." The movie never slows down enough.
Chazz Palminteri is such an evil cop that the planes of his face seem to have shifted into a sinister new configuration; I saw him in January at Sundance, where he was pleasant and smiling, and here he looks like a Batman villain who tried to shave with Roto-Rooter.

After a disastrous theatrical run - New Line didn't know how to market the film - Running Scared hopes to find an audience at home, where ridiculous plotlines, extreme violence, corrupt cops and general gritty sleaze often hits its target better than in the theater.
Most critics hated Running Scared, but in a world where so many movies follow safe, boring lines from point A to point B, it was refreshing to find a movie that pushed the gas pedal to the floor and never looked back.
Running Scared isn't exactly a character piece - it's one where the style is the substance - so visuals play a huge part in the experience and New Line hits it out of the park.

The unfortunate thing about "Running Scared" is that even though it is often vile and messy praying on the lowest common denominator, it tries to resolve things happily.
One of the more underrated films to come out in 2006, "Running Scared" is one of those wickedly fun action thrillers that sacrifices substance for style, but somehow works because of it.

To get the gun back he has to find the kid, and to find the kid we'll all have to travel with him through a series of increasingly absurd circumstances and unlikely side tangents for a violent, confusing, boorishly long 122 minutes.
Running Scared is absolutely dizzying as Kramer tries to squeeze anything and everything into his film, regardless of how it fits in with what's going on or whether it moves his central plot forward.
I'm not trying to sell this as some sort of acting ability awakening in Walker, but the grittier, hard-edged, scared to death persona of Joey suits him better than any of the others we've seen him stumble over during his already too long career.

In Running Scared, there’s not really anyone running around scared, so much as their people shooting, fighting and dropping the f-bomb a bunch (not that there’s anything wrong with any of that).
Running Scared is released on DVD after a dismal run in theaters way back in February.
There’s a CGI-ed moment where you actually see the film dissolve that emphasizes exactly what I’m talking about: Running Scared wasn’t meant to be seen so clearly, this is a raw movie better served viewed on a damaged film print than the clarity of a DVD.

I wanted to see Running Scared because I was so fond of The Cooler, writer-director Wayne Kramer's previous film.
Like The Cooler, Running Scared had at least one too many endings; the extra endings in The Cooler fit into its overall theme of luck, but the endings in Running Scared were cliched and manipulative.
The action throughout Running Scared is involving and fast-paced enough that you don't notice right away the number of cliches being invoked in this film.
