Runoff (program) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
It was a descendant of the RUNOFF type-setting program from CTSS and was originally written by Jerome H. Saltzer.
A later version of runoff for Multics was written in PL/I by Dennis Capps, in 1974.
This runoff code was the ancestor of the machine language roff that was written for the fledgling Unix.

EPA > Polluted Runoff (Nonpoint Source Pollution)
Runoff controls are essential to preventing polluted runoff from roads, highways, and bridges from reaching surface waters.
Runoff control measures can be installed at the time of road, highway, and bridge construction to reduce runoff pollution both during and after construction.
When runoff enters an infiltration basin, the water percolates through the bottom or the sides and the sediment is trapped in the basin.

Unix - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Unix environment and the client-server program model were essential elements in the development of the Internet and the reshaping of computing as centered in networks rather than in individual computers.
The system is also known for the use of a large number of small programs that can be strung together to complete a task with a pipe, as opposed to using a single larger program that includes all of the same functionality.
Under a program called SCOsource, the SCO Group is now offering licenses to all companies and individuals wishing to use operating systems with code based on UNIX System V Release 4 (and their own release, UNIX System V, Release 5).

The Red River Regional Storm Water Coordination Program
Storm water discharges are generated by runoff from land and impervious areas such as paved streets, parking lots, and building rooftops during rainfall and snow events that often contain pollutants in quantities that could adversely affect water quality.
The program has broadened to include smaller construction sites, small municipalities (populations of less than 100,000) that were temporarily exempted based on their industrial activity, and MS4s.
The NPDES storm water program requires operators of constructions site 1 acre or larger (including smaller sites that are part of a larger common plan of development) to obtain authorization to discharge storm water under an NPDES construction storm water permit.

The results indicated that urban runoff components that produce a detectable response in the Ames test may be diluted or inactivated in combination with sanitary sewage to form combined sewage, since fewer responses were detected in the latter than in urban runoff.

EPA > Polluted Runoff (Nonpoint Source Pollution) > MMGI > Guide to Environmental Program Funding Alternatives
There are four basic ways to fund public programs and facilities: current revenues (pay as you go), borrowing (bonding), intergovernmental transfers/assistance (fees or taxes collected by one level of government and passed on to another in the form of loans or grants), and public-private partnerships (private sector involvement in historically public sector activities).
Approved programs will be implemented through changes to the state nonpoint source management program approved and funded by EPA under section 319 of the Clean Water Act and through changes to the state coastal zone management program approved by NOAA under section 306 of the Coastal Zone Management Act.
Such a program allows the private sector to allocate its resources to reduce pollutants in the most cost-effective manner, and it encourages the development of a watershed-wide or basin-wide approach to water quality protection.

Environmental Programs - Urban Runoff - City of Santa Monica
Urban runoff, the surface water from our yards, driveways, and streets that flows through storm drains, is the greatest single source of pollution to the beaches and near-shore waters of the Santa Monica Bay.
By reducing the quantity of runoff and improving the quality of runoff, we lower levels of harmful bacteria, toxics, and other forms of pollutants affecting the bay.
Reducing the amount of urban runoff and the amount of pollutants contained in the runoff are essential for the health and safety of our community.

Village of Skokie - Public Works - Storm Water Runoff Control Program
The resulting program was a highly engineered storm water runoff system that complements the natural flow of water (through the laws of gravity) by altering street elevations and adding water detention areas where necessary.
The Program is financed by the issuance of municipal bonds and through a low-interest State of Illinois loan program.
Although the Program is financed through property taxes, it is important to note that the Village portion of residential property taxes has not increased since 1990.
