The area of the region is 1354 sq.km (1.2% of the territory of the country) and the population is 1,111,476 which is 14% of the population of Bulgaria.
Ruse region comprises lands along the lower course of the Danube (the river Yantra to the west and to Silistra in the east) in the south it is part of the ridge of the Balkan Range.
The administrative centre of the region is Ruse with a population of 170,000 population.
