Rushall railway station (station code: RUS), opened in 1927, is on the Epping line in Melbourne, Australia.
Rushall once played a larger role in the Melbourne rail system, as it was the eastern end of the Inner Circle, which passed between Rushall and Royal Park.
Rushall is arranged with two platforms either side of dual railway tracks, connected by an underpass.

From Rushall station to Royal Park station the rail reserve has become a Linear park which provides part of the Capital City Trail for cyclists, connecting the Merri Creek Trail to the Moonee Ponds Creek Trail in the network of shared use bicycle paths for Cycling in Melbourne.
At its closure, it ran from Royal Park station on the Upfield line to the west, to a three-way intersection with Rushall and Merri stations on the modern Epping line to the east.
North Fitzroy station is now a slight rise in the "rail trail" path east of Nicholson Street, which was realigned in 2002 to traverse the length of the former platform.

Melbourne has too much sprawl to really rely upon people walking to stations.
Also there was an inner circle line, which ran from (I think) Rushall across to Royal Park, with stations such as North Fitzroy, Fitroy and North Carlton.
I moved to Melbourne recently and I have wondered wether this idea would be a good one or not.

if in doubt, go straight ahead (and down the hill!) We passed the path which goes beside the Upfield Railway Line, which Pandora used to use to commute from Brunswick to Melbourne University, which is a handy route, but not all that pretty.
We only were unsure about the path at one point, where it said shared footway up to the right, and no other sign, but we decided that we would go straight ahead, which is the right way, and ended in a huge downhill.........
