Rushton Triangular Lodge - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Triangular Lodge is a folly, designed and constructed between 1593 and 1597 by Sir Thomas Tresham in Northamptonshire, England.
The triangular chimney is adorned with the holy monogram "IHS", a lamb and cross, and a chalice.
While the lodge is indisputably a testament to the faith of Tresham, it is also an example of the Elizabethan love of allegory.

 Triangular Lodge
The whole design of the Lodge is based on the number three, which Tresham saw connected with his own surname and as an expression of his faith in the Christian Trinity.
The Lodge's ground plan is a perfect equilateral triangle, each side 33 feet long – by tradition, the age of Christ at his death.
Other buildings with a three-sided equilateral theme in Europe include a triangular castle at Gripsholm in Sweden and part of the Chateau de Chantilly in France, which is based on an equilateral plan of gigantic scale.

This weekend we went down to Rutland to visit Lyddington Bede House and then to Northamptonshire where we visited Kirby Hall and Rushton Triangular Lodge as they were fairly close.
The bede house was quite interesting and has had a chequered history as a bishops' palace and hunting lodge as well as a bede house and I took a few shots inside without flash.
The wierdest building of the day though was the triangular lodge.
