Russel Crouse (February 20, 1893 – April 3, 1966) was a U.S. playwright and librettist, best known for his work in the Broadway writing partnership of Lindsay and Crouse.
Born in Findlay, Ohio, Crouse began his Broadway career in 1928 as an actor in the play Gentlemen of the Press, in which he played Bellflower.
Russel Crouse named his daughter Lindsay Ann Crouse in an intentional tribute to his collaboration with Howard Lindsay.

Crouse had taken a leave of absence from the Post, and despite calls all over town, could not be located.
Crouse replied, “Oh, but you can do that at the rehearsal in Boston.” His final design for the concluding act was conceived, drawn, built and shipped to Boston, its paint still wet, in just three days.

State of the Union, the 1946 Pulitzer Prize-winning issue-oriented comedy by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse, is being revived Sept. 22-Oct. 22 in Washington, D.C. — the play's first-act setting.
"While Lindsay and Crouse penned State of the Union 60 years ago, their work speaks to our time and, perhaps, to all ages," said Ford's producing director Paul R. Tetreault in production notes.
Other works by Lindsay and Crouse include Life with Father, one of the longest running plays in Broadway history, and the books for The Sound of Music and Call Me Madam.

Morro Castle went down in flames off the New Jersey coast with a loss of over 125 lives.
The script was quickly rewritten and since the original authors, Guy Bolton and P.G. Wodehouse, were both working in Europe, the producers brought in a press agent, Russel Crouse, to work with the director Howard Lindsay.
Thus began a partnership that went on to write several wonderful plays and librettos, including The Sound of Music.
