Russell is descended from some of the area's earliest settlers and entrepreneurs; two of her great-grandfathers were ministers who worked in and around Wilmington, and another ancestor was one of the founders of the Carolina Yacht Club at Wrightsville Beach, owner of a pier at the Wilmington docks and part owner of Airlie Gardens.
Russell's grandfather adored his wife and promised her a life as grand as the one of her Biloxi childhood, when her father, a prosperous port captain, had traveled the world and brought back treasures for his daughter.
Russell, likewise, says she is doing this -- the rehearsals in her living room, the lodging arrangements in New York, the lemon bars and pecan tarts, the contingency awnings -- for the cast and crew, who could benefit from the right break.

Fitzgerald's New York was a 1920 prairie boy's dream of white towers and gloriously desirable girls, but Daisy Buchanan already belonged to a past as remote as Lillian Russell and Boss Tweed on the day Mitchell arrived in town.
His New York was born of the crash, hardened by the Great Depression, civilized by the sense of mission generated by World War II, and made genial by the Eisenhower era's sense of well-being.
But the New York emerging in the 1960s was not a city that lent itself to his particular "cast of mind." It needed writers who had grown up hearing the roar of the bullhorn, not the voice of Aunt Annie talking about the people down below.

The Empire State is most famous for New York City, not technically the state capital, but without a doubt one of the most important cities in the country and in the world.
New York State's overall cost of living is 20% above the national average, with housing costs bearing the brunt of it at 40% above the average.
New York City is the main culprit of these high numbers; it's difficult to find affordable apartments for rent in the city, especially in popular boroughs Manhattan and Brooklyn, unless you're lucky enough to have a high-paying job, independent wealth or multiple roommates willing to squish in to tiny studio apartments.
