Russell A. Miller returned to Idaho and the Palouse to join the faculty of the College of Law in 2002.
In 1999, Professor Miller was awarded a Robert Bosch Foundation Fellowship and during the course of the fellowship he participated in lengthy internships at the German Federal Constitutional Court (Bundesverfassungsgericht) and the European Court of Human Rights.

Officer Miller was struck by a drunk driver while making a traffic stop in the early morning hours.
During the stop, Officer Miller was walking from his cruiser to the driver of the pickup truck when the drunk driver struck him from behind, throwing him into the bed of the pickup truck.
Officer Miller was flown to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead approximately ten hours after the incident.
