Russell ‘s career started in September ’66 with the formation of the group Somebody’s Image, who rose to prominence with the hit ‘Hush’, a version of the Joe South song.
Russell Morris had now decided to concentrate on his own songwriting and with the cream of musicians spent almost a year painstakingly recording and re-recording what became the ‘Bloodstone’ album.
In 1973 Russell Morris moved to London to record an album, to discover there was no record contract waiting for him.

Morris' career started in September 1966 with the formation of the Melbourne group Somebody's Image, which rose to prominence with a local hit version of the Joe South song "Hush." Morris was convinced to leave Somebody's Image for a solo career.
Morris had now decided to concentrate on his own songwriting and with the cream of Australian musicians, spent almost a year painstakingly recording and re-recording what became the Bloodstone album.
He then formed the Russell Morris Band and threw himself into a busy round of live performances, writing songs designed to be played live rather than chasing radio airplay, but scoring a couple of minor hits on the way.

Russell’s recent guest conducting engagements have been appearances with the orchestra of Toronto, Detroit, Indianapolis, Minnesota, Louisville, Anchorage, New Mexico, Nashville, Winston-Salem, Miami‘s New World Symphony, the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra in New Orleans and this past November, the New York Philharmonic at Avery Fischer Hall.
Russell served as associate conductor of the Savannah Symphony Orchestra, director of the orchestral program and professor of conducting at Vanderbilt University, music director for the College Light Opera Company in Falmouth, Massachusetts, and conducting assistant with the Akron Symphony Orchestra.
Russell received a master of music degree in conducting from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in music from Williams College in Massachusetts.

Russell Morris, of course, had a huge hit in the late sixties with his Molly Meldrum-produced version of Johnny Young's song 'The Real Thing', and followed up with other hits such as 'Sweet Sweet Love' and 'Wings of an Eagle'.
Whilst I admired Russell Morris' later work, have a nostalgic fondness for the Real Thing, and really enjoyed his performance at Long Way to the Top, his joinder with Cotton and Ronnie Burns was unlikely to entice me.
On this night, however, they bounced off each other and Morris and all three appeared to be having as much fun as the audience.
