  Russell Mulcahy
To the extent that Mulcahy makes films and not something else, he appears to be squandering his talents on an ungrateful public.
Mulcahy’s direct involvement is best seen in interiors carefully imbuing each scene with period life: Lamont Cranston’s library in rough earth tones with Craftsman-style lighting and a Georgia O’Keeffe over the mantelpiece (Radiator Building—Night), Dr. and Mrs.
Tam’s kitchenette, his university laboratory, the Cobalt Club, etc. He creates a composite portrait of Margo Lane toying with an apple on a divan in the lower part of the screen (foreground), and the “mad scientist” (her father) in the upper part (background).

BBC - Films -article article - Russell Mulcahy - What Went Wrong?
It's fair to say that one often expects sequels to be poorer than their predecessors but no one was quite prepared for the awfulness of "Highlander II: The Quickening".
With director Russell Mulcahy having steered the original film to European box office success, hopes were high that he could repeat the magic.
This was not the case for his "Tale of the Mummy" (1998) which went straight to video in America and the UK and was cynically released at around the same time as Stephen Sommers' "The Mummy" was smashing the box office in the summer of 1999.

Breaking the Waves: Flawed fatherhood and fraternal rivalries in Russell Mulcahy's Swimming Upstream   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
Mulcahy consistently frames characters, particularly Dora and Tony, through the constraints of doorways and windows, suggesting the particular oppressiveness of their respective situations.
Mulcahy registers Tony's psychic distress at his father's rejection by having him float through the hallways of the family home, which then morph into the liberating, blue spaces of the swimming pool.
Mulcahy's lively direction also makes possible the improbable proposition that the numerous swimming races, which feature consistently throughout the film, remain a forceful and visually appealing element.

Video Killed the Radio Star - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Its music video, directed by Russell Mulcahy, is noteworthy because it was the first video shown on MTV, when the channel debuted on August 1, 1981 (at 12:00 AM).
Both the lyrics of the song itself and imagery in the video (which includes exploding radios) explore themes of a popular recording artist losing popularity in the video age.
Radio stations feared this might become the wave of the future, with fans tuning into MTV for new music and ignoring radio.

SILENT TRIGGER - DVD   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
There was a time, 'round about the cheap thrills of Razorback, that I thought director Russell Mulcahy had a future as an action director.
The source was shot on a surprisingly large (yet fairly modest by comparison to today's blockbusters) ten million dollar budget that simply cannot accommodate the special effects shots and, accordingly, the film looks astonishingly bad.
Though the DVD is panned and scanned from an original aspect ratio of 2.35:1, I can't imagine what might have been lost and likewise can't imagine that the film could be aided by there actually being more of it to look at.

I had never heard of this movie until three days ago, but given my interest in the original "Highlander" (which Russell Mulcahy also directed), a like of the Sommers Mummy movies and an appreciation of Christopher Lee movies I decided to give 1999s TALE OF THE MUMMY a chance.
This movie was not at all scary but like the Sommers original MUMMY movie a lot of fun with a good dose of suspense, intrigue and (something the other movie lacked) a great twist in the end.
Russell Mulcahy's flashy retelling of the mummy legend is to be credited for its unusual approach to a timeworn legend.
