MOSCOW, May 18 (Prime-Tass) -- The Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) has concluded that the Kyoto Protocol is not in Russia's interests, and that its requirements are of a discriminatory nature, RAS said in a statement Tuesday, ITAR-TASS reported.
The academy is an influential state umbrella organization of Russia's major research institutes.
Earlier Tuesday Osipov told the academy’s general meeting that the RAS had not yet shaped its final position on the Kyoto Protocol and planned to set up a special commission to study the advisability of ratifying the international treaty designed to limit global greenhouse gas emissions.
