The Russian Blue is a breed of cat.
Unlike many modern cat breeds, the Russian Blue is a naturally occurring breed which is believed to originate in the port af Arkhangelsk, Russia, although the only evidence of this is anecdotal.
Russian Blues should not be confused with 'British Blues' (which are not a distinct breed but rather a British Shorthair with a blue coat), nor the Chartreux or Korat which are two other naturally occurring breeds of blue cats.

It is entirely possible (and indeed, probable) that that same random bred blue had littermates and parents who were not solid blue and will not produce solely blue kittens when mated with another blue cat.
There are the occasional occurrences where the undocumented cat is indeed a Russian Blue, but these “findings” are usually the result of a pedigreed pet ending up in a pet store without its papers or a pedigreed pet becoming separated from her original owner (either given away or she got out and got lost).
