 Rutan Long-EZ - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Rutan Model 61 Long-EZ is a homebuilt aircraft with a canard layout designed by Burt Rutan's Rutan Aircraft Factory.
As of late 2005, approximately 700 Long EZ's are FAA registered in the USA.
The aircraft is designed for fuel-efficient long-range flight and can fly for over ten hours and up to 2,500 kilometers (1,600 miles) on 200 liters (52 gallons) of fuel.

A series of world records for speed and distance were broken by Dick Rutan and Jeana Yeager using VariEze and LongEze aircraft.

It has a top speed of about 150 kts (180 mph), but I generally cruise at 140 kts at 2500 rpm (160 mph.) This plane was designed by legendary aircraft designer Burt Rutan.
Expect to pay around $25-35K for a low end model with few modifications and as high as $35-50K for a high end model with the larger engine (O-320) and a good panel.
It's a delight to fly and even though it uses the exact same engine as my Colt, it flies about 60 mph faster.

All four aircraft that I have mentioned here have perfectly normal response to a rudder input (well, yes, the early VariEze and Long EZ rudders were to small, but we're not talking about this here).
For longitudinally trimmed flight, for right half of the model, the code calculates: Rudder Defl.

I built and flew a Long EZ for 6 years and it was my experience that the gear was OK for reasonably smooth grass operation but the prop wasn't.
It seems logical to me that all the problems that have been discovered or uncovered by Long EZ builder/flyers that concern portions of the two designs that are identical or similar, should be passed on to Cozy builders by: 1.
As an EZ builder, I am not too familiar with the way Nat does this, though I have seen some of the Cozy newsletters.

 EZ-Rocket Aims For XC Record
Dick Rutan is slated to pilot the aircraft for the record attempt.
It flew at Oshkosh in 2002 and at the Countdown to the X Prize Cup held last month in New Mexico.
After reaching California City, it will go into a hangar, then fly back to Mojave around Dec. 10.
