Rutger Macklean wrote in one of his books: "Agriculture is the source of personal and public prosperity".
Rutger Macklean was born at Ströms mansion in Hjärtum (in the west of Sweden) the 27th of July in 1742.
Rutgers family name was Mackleir until 1783, one year after he had taken over Svaneholms Castle from his uncle Gustaf Adolf Coyet.

In 1691 he got married to Margareta von Ascheberg, the daughter of field marshal and Governor General of Skåne, Rutger von Ascheberg, and his young spouse then followed him on all his campaigns on the service of Holland in the war against the French.
It is told that their youngest son was born in the middle of the bombardment of Brussels in 1695.
In the 1690's colonel Barnekow along with his father in law Ascheberg established the largest and oldest studfarm in the country in order to breed horses for a regiment of dragoons at Vittskövle.

It is worth to notice that the barrier has an opening in middle, to allow ships to sail in and out of The Bay of Foteviken.
On the hand drawn map by Gerhard Buhrmann, commissioned by the general governor of Scania, Rutger von Ascheberg, the barrier is called "Stigan", which means a place with wooden poles.
